Duties
***THIS IS A TITLE 32 NATIONAL GUARD POSITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP***
This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters-State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a wide variety of maintenance, repair, and inspections on mounted, towed, and motorized artillery and armored equipment.
(1) Performs a wide variety of repair, rebuild, modification, inspection, and testing of self-propelled artillery, towed artillery, turret mounted weapon systems, and associated mechanisms such as loading, firing and recoil mechanisms, turret hydraulic systems, drive controllers , oil gears, oil pumps, elevating and traversing mechanisms, hydraulic systems and simple electrical systems. Operates various component parts to determine serviceability and to localize malfunctions to determine extent of corrective adjustments and repair procedures required.
2) Works on complete artillery pieces or a wide variety of major components, complex assemblies, and systems. Works on major assemblies such as gun tubes, breeches, carriages, mounts, turrets, elevating, traversing, loading, and control systems.
(3) Traces circuits by referring to schematic diagrams and visually inspects circuits for faulty insulation, poor electrical contacts, and broken or worn electrical components. Uses test equipment and analyzes continuity of circuits. Repairs or replaces circuits.
(4) May serve as a commodity inspector during Command Maintenance Management evaluations (COMET) or as a member of a Maintenance Assistance Instruction Team (MAIT).
(5) Performs other duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Michigan Army National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- May be required to successfully complete a trial period.

- Must have a valid civilian driver's license.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

Military Grades: E1 - W4
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training in dismantling, cleaning, and reassembling various artillery subassemblies. Experience which has demonstrated the ability to diagnose malfunctions by recognizing worn or damaged parts by measurement, strength of springs or dimension of parts. Experience using hand tools, a limited number of measuring instruments, and a variety of test equipment. Experience which demonstrated the ability to interpret and apply a variety of technical manuals and similar published materials.
