Summary

THIS IS AN ARMY NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a TITLE 32 SUPERVISORY ITSPEC (SYSADMIN) (MI JFHQ G6), Position Description Number D2490000 and is part of the MI JFHQ Army, Michigan Army National Guard.

Duties

***THIS IS A TITLE 32 NATIONAL GUARD POSITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP***

This position is located in a National Guard JFHQ-State organization under the office of the Chief Information Officer(CIO/G6/J6). This is a National Guard Dual Status Technician position requiring military membership. Serves as project leader/supervisor responsible for developing, assigning, and coordinating duties and projects for systems administrators. Serves as the senior systems administrator responsible for planning, coordinating, modifying, implementing, and troubleshooting to support customer needs. The systems administered involve multiple hardware platforms running multiple operating systems in both physical and virtual configurations. The incumbent is accountable for the planning and coordinating the installation, testing, system security configuration and monitoring, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of all server hardware and software. Work pertains to the administration of all systems including ensuring the efficient integration between systems as well as compatibility within the network infrastructure. The supervised team members are specifically assigned to multiple system platforms located throughout the state.

1. Provides executive leadership, guidance, and direction to ensure acquisition, development, and retention of a professional, highly capable workforce to accomplish assigned missions. Provides supervision in the daily operations for delivery of C4IM services.

2. Establishes performance standards and evaluates employee performance. Reviews and recommends approval of, candidates for promotions and recognition. Reviews and approves: work plans to be accomplished by subordinates; priorities and schedules for completion of work; sets broad objectives; monitors subordinate employees' performance in providing IT services; reviews accomplishments; and takes appropriate action of correction when deficiencies are noted.

3. Collaborates with other supervisors and managers within the directorate to negotiate, decide on, or coordinate work-related changes affecting them. Advises their supervisor with broader and higher responsibilities on problems involving the relationship of the work of the system administration teams to broader programs, and its impact on IT Services.

4. Resolves inquiries and problems concerning access, use, and availability of datacenter technologies. Develops and enhances automated systems to improve performance and efficiency.

5. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Michigan Army National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

  • Must obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance level.
  • Designated as OM-ADM-001 within the Defense Cybersecurity Workforce by NIST SP 800-181; National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education, Cybersecurity Workforce Framework. Establishing Tasks, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities expected of this position.
  • All certifications are required within 6 month of employment.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

Specialized experience includes experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion.

Supervisory - Experience in managing the function of the work to be performed. Experience which includes leading, directing and assigning work of personnel.

Education

You must meet the following Education requirement to qualify for this position:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
