Summary

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a TITLE 5 SUPERVISORY ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN (RADAR/COMMUNICATION) (MI 127th OG), Position Description Number NGT5826500 and is part of the MI 127 Wing, National Guard.

Duties

***THIS IS A TITLE 5 EXCEPTED NATIONAL GUARD POSITION***

This position is located in the Mission Systems Branch of an Air National Guard (ANG) Air Control Squadron (ACS). The purpose of this position is to supervise, direct and manage employees designing, engineering, analyzing, installing, maintaining, programming and operating Theater Air Control weapons systems comprised of sensor systems, Information Technology (IT) networks, and communications systems in both tactical and fixed based environments.

1. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work of the full range of Communications-Electronics (C-E) equipment and systems assigned. Evaluates scheduling, rescheduling or reassignment of work by assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.

2. Interviews candidates for positions in the unit and recommends selection of new employees for reassignment and promotion to such positions. Ensures the proper use, management, and training of all personnel, consisting of multiple technical disciplines within the branch.

3. Prepares and submits budget estimates and revisions for the procurement, installation, and operation/maintenance of equipment and supply items. Monitors and controls the expenditure of material and manpower resources in accomplishment of peacetime or wartime mission goals.

4. Exercises continuing responsibility for safety conditions, procedures, and work practices employed within the branch. Provides work force guidance on safety matters and ensures safe work practices are utilized. Ensures periodic inspections of work centers are performed and immediate action is taken to correct unsafe conditions.

5. Performs the non-supervisory work by designing, engineering, analyzing, installing, maintaining, programming and operating the equipment within their assigned career field alongside of those employees supervised.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

GS-10 - must have 1-year equivalent to at least next lower grade level experience, education, or training in the design and fabrication of electrical layouts, and various electronic systems. Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems. Experience in supervising and leading teams and personnel to develop plans, and coordinate efforts of government/contactor teams and individual personnel.

GS-11 and above - must have 1-year equivalent to at least next lower grade level experience, education, or training in utilizing principles, basic functions, and application of theory of electronic systems or equipment. Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems. Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment. Experience in using complex test equipment such as deviation meters, complex special test panels, etc. Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications.

AND

Work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions.

Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment.

For Supervisory Positions, add the following Specialized Experience:
Experience in managing the function of the work to be performed. Experience which includes leading, directing and assigning work of personnel.
