JOB TITLE: Tour Guide

INTRODUCTION:
The position is located within the MCCS Tours+ Office which provides a comprehensive and versatile tours program for military personnel and their dependents, to include customizing for the Marine Unit Deployment Program on Okinawa. The tours offered encompass local and international tours, e.g., Okinawa Battle Sites, Expo Park, Pineapple Park, Shuri Castle, Peace Park, Ie Island, Ishigaki Island, Tokyo Disneyland and, Mt. Fuji, Osaka, and Kyoto to include Asian countries such as China, Australia, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a tour guide, independently plans and conducts a wide variety of tours to include local and international, short to long durations to group of people up to 50. Gives talks covering a range of facts, history, events, statistics, natural characteristics, interesting stories of the sites, provides principle features to be observed, and explains the points of interest nearby; answers questions courteously and exercises judgment in which information to provide and the language to frame the answers; maintains tour schedules, explains regulations to be followed, and insures the safety of the tour members throughout the tour.
Work includes assisting in how and where to purchase tickets for public transportation and at sightseeing places, how to use public transportations such as trains, hotel check-in; translating conversations; explaining manners, etiquette and cultural background pertaining to the use of certain facilities.
Packages and presents information about Tours Plus to units at Newcomer Orientations, briefings, club functions, etc. Provides assistance in coordinating and operating the Tours Plus booth at all major festivals and special events.
Deals with complaints with tact and diplomacy. If not resolved, questions or complaints may be addressed to higher level.
Studies road maps, route, availability of parking lot, road condition and conducts research to verify information and answer inquiries. May operate vehicle (up to 10 passenger van) to transport tour group.
Assists Tours+ Coordinator in preparing tour package and scheduling of tours to meet anticipated demand and according to availability of destination, costs, and probability of success.
Makes recommendations for improvements in tour programs, facility operations, policies, etc., to the Tours+ Manager. May be required to assists in training other MCCS tour guides as needed.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.
Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.
