Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Telecommunications Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Testing and maintenance of existing, new or modified data network infrastructures; installing telephone systems, circuit diagrams, and/or new copper and fiber optic cabling to include the splicing there of; inspecting and/or quality control ensuring specifications are met. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

- Work assignments require light to moderate effort. The incumbent must frequently lift, carry, or otherwise handle items weighing up to 70 pounds. The employee is required to work in a sitting position for extended periods and frequently must stand, bend, crouch, stoop and stay for extended periods of time in uncomfortable positions. May be required on occasion to climb poles or ladders and work in high places.
- Work is performed the majority of the time in well lighted, heated and ventilated areas. Work is both indoors and outdoors. Working outdoors exposes incumbent to climatic conditions of the area: such as winds, rains, cold temperatures and snow for approximately nine months of the year. Incumbent may be exposed on occasion to moderately high temperatures, dust, dirt and hazardous environments, subject to falls from ladders and poles while working on aerial cables, cave-ins and falling debris while working underground cables in dark and closed quarters, under buildings and in attics. Incumbent must take all precautions to avoid hazardous conditions and perform all work in a safe manner. Work may require use of protective clothing or equipment as authorized by the Safety Officer.
