GS-5 Qualifications:
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English to meet the requirements of this position.

Specialized Experience GS-5: One (1) year of Specialized Experience that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position that is typically in or related to the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level. Examples of Specialized experience are: understanding of laws, regulations, directives, polices, procedures and guidelines relating to civilian pay covering a complicated block of accounts and a working practical knowledge of standardized regulations, station directives, public Laws, Headquarters directives, manuals, etc., relating to entitlement and use of various categories of time and leave; utilizing administrative and clerical policies and procedures to create, format, and proofread documents; reproducing and distributing materials, and maintaining files; comprehension of all areas of the computerized timecard system including input, error and message codes received from the automated system to ensure corrective action is taken; using computer equipment and a variety of software applications; and communicating with a wide variety of employees and supervisors.

Substitution of Education for Experience GS-5: Successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

Combining Education and Experience GS-5: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. (i.e. six (6) months of specialized experience and two (2) years of education above the high school level).

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Requirements: The work is partly sedentary in nature. Typically, the employee will sit to do their work.
