Summary

This vacancy is for a GS-1712-11, Training Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, LDC PERFORMANCE SUPPORT DEPARTMENT. Duty location will be determined upon selection.

Duties

You will serve as a Training Specialist and be responsible for ????providing training, and expertise in the areas of military professional development, leadership, management, health and physical readiness, and professional maritime studies.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Teaching, training, research, making presentations, lecturing, testing, and other instructional methods.
  • Appling tools, techniques, and procedures to develop functional, physical, or prototype models and simulations for training, testing and evaluation, to predict behavior and phenomena, to evaluate design alternatives, to support operational preparation, and to visually communicate concepts and/or validate requirements.
  • Helping others learn; identifies training needs; provides constructive reinforcement; coaches others on how to perform tasks; acts as a mentor.
  • Using knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on the job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.

Qualifications

Qualifications for GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level is required;

OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in education or a subject area related to the position;

OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in education or a related area;

OR LL.M., if related

To qualify for this position, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis:

Specialized experience must include the following:

  • Developing training/course materials, curriculum, aids, devices, etc. for students;
  • Teaching or instructing in the areas of military professional development/ accessions and leadership development;
  • Providing formal classroom and experiential performance-based training for military accession students;
  • Participating in the developing and modification of military instructional courses content and materials using experiential and innovative methodologies.
  • Assessing status of course content and conducting evaluations in accordance with qualification training accreditation standards
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

NOTE: Education can be substituted for experience at this grade level.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
