Duties

Serving as a Training Technician GS-1702-9 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is located in the Behavioral Science Division (BSD), under the Technical Training Operations (TTO) Directorate, and located in Glynco, Georgia.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical support work for Program Coordinators and Instructors assigned to the Division.

Typical duties include:

  • Providing basic technical guidance and assistance to headquarters and field officials and employees on conventional training and
    instructional issues and activities
  • Conducting periodic visits with students to discuss problems, questions, and training issues.
  • Making arrangements through parent agencies for out- processing students departing early due to medical, emergency, or academic reasons.
  • Assisting BSD instructional staff with the development, coordination, issuance, and administration of project agreements, task orders,
    statements of work with commercial organizations and educational institutions.
  • Participating in the review and evaluation of training courses, materials, aids, and devices.
  • Performing administrative duties and provide substantive advice on suspense dates and assignments for staff actions/correspondence

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain all training for a DHS Program Manager Level II certification within 12 months of employment.
  • This position is designated as Emergency Essential. You will be required to sustain FLETC operations in the event of a localized situation, such as inclement weather, interruptions to power, or dismissal or closure of DHS operations or services.

You qualify at the GS-09 grade level if you possess one of the following:
  • One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in Federal service, performing the following duties: 1) Utilizing adult education theories and techniques to provide assistance on training and instructional activities or issues; 2) Applying current training technologies to design or revise instructional programs and course materials; 3) Evaluating the effectiveness of law enforcement training programs; 4) Preparing and/or executing purchase requisitions and credit card transactions in support of training programs; OR
  • A master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR
  • 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR
  • An LL.B. or J.D., if related ; OR
  • A combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience as described above that, when combined, equal 100% of the total requirement. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application.
NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of the first year may be used to qualify for the GS-09 level.

Re-employed annuitants' annual salaries will be reduced by the amount of their retirement annuity and by further cost of living increases. Physical Demands: The work is basically sedentary but may require some travel. The large volume of work with the pressure of deadlines creates stressful situations. You must be capable of carrying documents, equipment, and peripherals, sometimes weighing up to 30 pounds, and must be capable of standing up to three hours.

Work Environment: The work is performed mostly in an office/classroom setting, except for occasional field trips to assist with training sessions and workshops.
