To qualify for a Transportation Assistant, your resume and supporting documentation must support:
A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-06 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:
- Selecting modes of carriers, consolidating shipments or coordinating connections.
- Responding to customer inquiries, and ensuring regulatory compliance throughout the movement process.
- Expedite or locate lost or misplaced shipments.
- Reconcile, prepare, verify and update a variety of transportation reports and documents
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Demands: Work is generally of a sedentary nature. During periods of work in the warehouse, work may require some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. May require moderate lifting and carrying, up to 40 pounds. Employee is required to wear appropriate safety clothing and equipment as determined by safety requirements and the supervisor. May require ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
Work Environment: Employee works generally in an office setting involving everyday risks or discomforts. Employee is frequently required to go to warehouses and loading docks to obtain information and must exercise care when working around materials handling equipment, conveyors and freight. In some situations, employee is required to wear protective clothing or equipment. Employee is required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), when working in warehouses or outside areas that require PPE.
