Summary

About the Position: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Uniform Business Office (UBO) Technician for a Military Treatment Facility (MTF) or clinic environment within the Defense Health Agency (DHA).

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

  • Utilize a thorough knowledge of medical terminology and disease processes to analyze each record of treatment to ascertain which visits are related to the claim in question.
  • Analyze and perform work necessary to accomplish work processes by using numerous manual and automation systems
  • Ensure records of billed claims have adequate audit trails
  • Reconcile account balances during daily audits of closed accounts.
  • Assist in developing and updating Standing Operating Procedures.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • The incumbent must complete training and meet position requirements for certification at Level 1 within 2 years of appointment. Failure to obtain and maintain this certification within the required time may subject the incumbent to adverse action.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing various armed forces financial and billing information systems; provide technical guidance to personnel regarding areas of responsibility; Research patient records for incorrect or missing medical information needed for valid insurance bills; Audit work for use of appropriate International Classification of Disease, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes and payment; Review insurance payments; Review account receivable reports to analyze claim rejection trends. Review Explanation of Benefits (EOB) for appropriateness to the claim submitted. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
