Duties

  • You will assist with work operations, maintenance and repairs of the potable water systems and the wastewater systems.
  • You will use the tools associated with the work of the job and select the proper tools for specific use during completion of assigned tasks.
  • You will perform the simple and routine tasks of the job with detailed guidance as to the necessary steps to take during job assignments.
  • You will make equipment adjustments, lubrications, reports, and report equipment problems.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

WG-01
1) Aptitude and Interest for Learning Trade Theory and Practice such as: Experience training or working in a vocational or trade related field or willingness and ability to learn a trade.

WG-03
1) Obtaining tools, plans, and materials; 2) Assisting others in performing disassembles, repairs, and assembling components; 3) Assisting others in performing preventative maintenance, system checks, and lifting, handling, storing, and disposing of materials; 4) Utilizing established safety practices, rules, regulations, and procedures.

WG-05
1) Assisting in making adjustments, lubrication, repairs and reports equipment problems; 2) Providing support in maintaining daily logs and records of results for wells, pump stations, water production, and wastewater influent; and 3) Updating logs of laboratory checks, calibration, and orders chemicals and laboratory supplies to ensure compliance with the state.

WG-08
1) Investigating customer complaints regarding water problems; 2) Reading and interpreting meters, gauges and instruments; 3) Monitoring and operating telemetry and SCADA systems; 4) Collecting and conducting water/wastewater quality and adding prescribed amounts of chemicals to treat water; and 5) Locating problems and initiating immediate corrective action to maintain inadequate wastewater treatment.

WG-10
1) Reporting to the supervisor and passing on instructions to the team to get work started; 2) Monitoring the operation, maintenance, control and repair of all related process equipment; 3) Reading and interpreting meters, gauges and instruments and documents readings and makes calculations and completes written reports; 4) Conducting various tests to determine proper chemical feed rates, calculating chemical feed rates and changing pump settings; 5) Operating valves, lifts, pumps (high pressure progressive cavity sewage, variable drive, various sump, chemical feed), gates, comminutors, cleaning and maintaining intermittent sand filters; and 6) Assuring that safety and housekeeping rules are followed.

The employee may be required to work overtime. Call back and emergency overtime are regular requirements of this position. May be assigned to any basic work week or shift hours.

May be required to carry a portable radio or pager and maintain contact with supervisor or customer service center at all times.

Must be able to wear a respirator and be respirator qualified.

May occasionally perform duties as a team leader. Team leader duties include: assigning daily work; answering questions of other workers about procedures, policies, and service or maintenance tickets; ensuring tools, materials, plans, blueprints, etc. are available; reporting problems, work status and work progress to supervisor(s); demonstrating proper work methods and practices.

May be required to provide technical guidance and direction or other types of informal coaching / training to other employees.

PHYSICAL EFFORT
The work requires moderate to strenuous effort and long periods of walking, standing, climbing, bending, and crouching. Workers frequently lift and carry parts and chemical supplies weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally items weighing over 40 pounds with assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is generally performed outside where employee may be subject to prevailing weather conditions. May be subject to extreme temperatures. May be subject to cuts and abrasions from the use of tools and equipment and burns from acids, caustics, hot water, steam, and contact with piping and boilers. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment applicable to the work, such as, face shields, ear plugs, gloves, hard-toe shoes, respirators, and fall protection gear.
