Duties
The position is with the Division of Maintenance, Water Utilities work group. Major Duties include:
- This position is a working leader assigned responsibility for utility maintenance work for three (3) reverse osmosis (RO) water treatment plants as well as other spring fed water systems and wastewater lagoons. Operations are dispersed among 6 primary areas: Furnace Creek, Cow Creek, Stovepipe Wells, Emigrant/Wildrose, Grapevine/Mesquite, and Scotty's Castle.
- Responsible for assisting in the efficient repair, maintenance and operation of water and wastewater treatment plants, collection systems including lift stations, distribution systems, reservoirs, and ancillary equipment.
- Operate and troubleshoot lift station functions to include pulling and clearing clogged submersible sewage pumps and grinders, use ladder logic diagrams to determine cause and effect of controlled errors and equipment failures.
- Operate water production systems to include turbine and centrifugal pumps and assist in the adjustment of well flow control equipment such as blow off valves, surge anticipators as well as maintenance on chemical injection feed pumps and chlorine.
Water/Wastewater Certifications: You must possess and maintain at least one of the following valid state licenses for entry into the position. The incumbent is required to obtain (within 24 months) and maintain the following California licenses and/or certifications as a condition of employment: 1) D-2 Water Distribution, 2) T-2 Water Treatment, 3) WW-1 Wastewater Treatment, 4) AWWA Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester. You must indicate the level of certification you currently possess in your application.

To receive current preference eligibility, members of the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe must submit a copy (not the original) of the letter certifying their tribal membership.
This position is located at Cow Creek in Death Valley National Park. Death Valley is a land of extremes. It is the hottest, driest, and lowest unit in the National Park system, and the largest park by land area in the contiguous United States. It consists of approximately 3.4 million acres located in California and Nevada, with elevations ranging from 280 feet below sea level to 11,000 feet above. The climate is arid and extremely hot in the summer. Winter temperatures range can get as low as 15° F, and summers as high as 125° F. The standing record is 134°F.
Cow Creek, located four (4) miles north of Furnace Creek Headquarters, is the primary housing and maintenance area for the park. The location, although remote, is nestled between the urban entertainment of Las Vegas and the innumerable outdoor recreation opportunities of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Many other national parks are nearby, such as Yosemite, Sequoia, and Joshua Tree.
