Direct Hire

About the Position: In this position you will perform a variety of utility labor tasks at a hydro-electric power plant in connection with the operation, maintenance, and repair of the power project facilities and equipment. You may also you will serve as operator in charge of a sewage disposal plant and remotely located pumping stations. You will operate and monitor the fresh water system requiring non-filtration processes.

Duties

  • Assist workers of the various skilled trades at the project by performing individual tasks as directed by the journey level worker to whom assigned.
  • Deliver and assemble tools, materials, and supplies at the work site.
  • Operate construction equipment.
  • Clean surfaces, parts, or assemble by washing, sanding, scraping, wire brushing, sand blasting, steam cleaning, etc.
  • Disassemble uncomplicated units or parts as directed.
  • Operate hand and power tools, jackhammers, pavement breakers, chipping hammers, and grinders.
  • Operate and monitor a water treatment plant, distribution and storage system including water treatment processes to ensure water is within prescribed parameters to meet a variety of project needs.
  • Operate all components of a sewage disposal plant.
  • Maintain records and follow procedures in accordance with state recommendations.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Utility Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. You must have the ability to perform the common tasks of a Utility Worker in an industrial setting. You are able to (1) assemble and pass tools; (2) carry tools and equipment to work sites; (3) assist with gathering materials and equipment needed for a job; (4) use hand tools to complete tasks; and (5) clean and store tools and equipment. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires frequent arm and leg movement to operate equipment; must frequently handle equipment and materials. Frequently lifts and carries equipment and supplies up to, and occasionally over, 45 pounds. Work requires prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, pushing and kneeling. Is subject to strains from lifting and pulling heavy objects.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is done inside and outside. Inside work is often in dim, damp, cold areas. Outside work frequently requires exposure to hot sun and to bad weather. Discomfort is experienced while wearing protective clothing, shoes, respirators, goggles, gloves, or face masks. There is danger from falls when working at heights, i.e., on scaffolding and ladders; injury from use of power and hand tools, danger of electric shock, and danger of drowning. Is subject to cuts, bruises, and is exposed to noise, dust and fumes. Must wear appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing, and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements. Operates and monitors a water treatment plant, distribution and storage system including water treatment processes to ensure water is within prescribed parameters to meet a variety of project needs. Operates all components of a sewage disposal plant. Maintains records and procedures in compliance with state recommendations. Must posses or be able to obtain and maintain the required state Operator Certification and ensure systems' compliance and certification with local, state and federal regulations.
