Duties

Serves as the clinic Veterinarian performing wellness appointments on a population of privately-owned animals and advising owners on proper immunizations and disease prevention.
Examine animals, treat diseases and injuries, conduct surgeries. Perform administrative duties such as maintaining legal medical health records.
Collect body tissue, feces, blood, urine, and other body fluids for examination and diagnostic testing.
Performs and interprets laboratory findings. Issues health certificates.
Provides direction and oversight to Animal Health Assistants with regards to veterinary nursing skills, veterinary medical standards, and animal care.

Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
A one year probationary period may be required.
Must not have an aversion to animals, blood, bodily fluids, animal tissues, strong odors, needles, or sharp instruments.
Must be able to stand for long periods, restrain animals, kneel, reach, etc.
Ability to obtain/renew United States Department of Agriculture/Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA/APHIS) accreditation within first 60-days of employment.
Ability to work occasional Saturdays for special events - as needed by management.
A successful background investigation submission to the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) must be met no later than 30 calendar days after entry on duty or placement in the position for internal candidates.
Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability determination.
Physical Requirements (applicable to all levels): Ability to lift animals and supplies up to 45 pounds, and on occasion greater than 45 pounds with the help of others. Long periods of standing, walking, restraining, kneeling, and reaching, etc.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess the following:

Possess a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA).
Possess a valid unrestricted state license to practice veterinary medicine (may be a valid state license from any US state).
Official transcripts must be provided prior to time of hire. Unofficial college/university transcripts may be uploaded for initial qualification screening.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified":

Possess active United States Department of Agriculture/ Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA/APHIS) accreditation.

Salary Information:
Salary is pro-rated based on a 40 hour work week and varies by location.
Hourly rate/ salary is:
NF-04 $43.12ph to $57.98ph ($90,000pa to $121,000pa)

PCS Costs

Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.

Allowances and Differentials

This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.
Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.

Scheduling Information:

Part-Time (at least 20 guaranteed work hours per week (may be scheduled be scheduled between 20-39 hours per week)
Locations: Fort Lee, VA, Norfolk, VA , Langley, VA, Fort Eustis, VA , Cherry Point, NC, Fort Stewart, GA

Flexible/Intermittent (00) guaranteed hours per week, however, may be scheduled to work between 0-40 hours per week based on mission needs). Flex employees are not entitled to leave or benefits however, there is no upper limit to the number of hours a flexible employee may work (subject to overtime obligation and work scheduling requirements).
Locations: Pensacola, FL, NTC Great Lakes, IL

Term (includes a "Not to Exceed (NTE)" date - e.g. Appointment NTE 1 year from date of hire. Upon completion of the Term appointment, the position will be re-examined to determine if the NTE appointment will be extended, if the appointment will be converted to a different employment category or displacement)

Temporary (appointment will not be extended upon completion of the Not to Exceed date)
