Conditions of employment

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-6 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level. Specialized Experience is defined as one or more of the following:
- Greet visitors and responding to phone and written inquiries personally or referring to other staff as appropriate;
- Maintain written records and files in electronic and/or hardcopy filing systems;
- Use word processing software and printing equipment to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve, and print standardized documents ensuring correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and format;
- Researches, develops, revises and updates educational, recreational guides, pamphlets, fact sheets, brochures, newspaper articles, trail signage, kiosk, boards, and interpretive displays.
For the GS-07 level: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 in the Federal service. Specialized Experience is defined as two or more of the following:
- Serve as the point of contact for the dissemination of public information of a specific work program for a unit; produce brochures, promotional materials, website and social media content, news releases, and/or newsletters used in support of a public information program;
- Review documents for accuracy and compliance and/or formally responded to inquiries and resolved issues related to a specific work program; develop curriculum, materials, and event planning for interpretive and conservation education programs;
- Serve as a point of contact for the public for the sale of items such as books, maps, t-shirts, permits, passes or tickets and accounted for inventory, supplies and monies collected as part of an interpretive and conservation education program;
- Serves as Collection Officer for the unit, responsible for accounting, balancing, reconciling, and accurate record keeping of the visitor center funds.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
There is no substitution of education for specialized experience.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
You will be evaluated in accordance with the category rating procedure as defined in the USDA Demonstration Project Plan. Applicants who meet the basic minimum qualification requirements established for the position will be placed in the Eligible category. You will be further evaluated against criteria for placement in the Quality category. This evaluation is based on the level of your experience, education, and/or training as determined by your responses to the Assessment Questionnaire. Individuals with veterans' preference are listed ahead of applicants who do not have veterans' preference within each category.
Accomplishment Record Review: If you are found minimally qualified, a rating panel will review your resume and Accomplishment Record narratives.
