To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Specialized experience must include the following:
- Designing, laying out, and preparing a wide variety of general and technical illustrations or photographs to reproduce the appearance of specific objects or pieces of technical equipment.
- Producing photographic slides, posters, brochures, and manuals with speed and accuracy necessitated by delivery timelines.
- Planning layouts and preparing sketches for the customer.
- Determining the camera, film, paper, lighting and arrangement of subjects needed for photographs.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Master's
or equivalent graduate degree in the following fields of study: commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position.
OR
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other field related to the position.
OR
LL.B. or J.D., if related
OR
Combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
