Duties

You will serve as a Visual Information Specialist (Photographer/Illustrator) and be responsible for the selection, creation, design, development and production of various elements of visual information that produce a complete and finished visual product and/or training aid in support of ATTC's resident and nonresident training.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Designing, laying out and preparing a wide variety of general and technical illustrations of aircraft, aircraft equipment, engine and major component assemblies, flight controls, instruments, electrical/electronic systems, hydraulic systems and aviation survival equipment, by hand or with computer applications that include vector and raster-based formats.
  • Photographing a variety of subject matter including aircraft, aircraft equipment, engine and major component assemblies, flight controls, instruments, electrical/electronic systems, hydraulic systems, aviation survival equipment, aerial views, graduating classes, and portraits.
  • Producing video productions of highly technical content for the training of Aviation "A" and "C" school students and welcome aboard productions for ATTC and local Coast Guard commands.
  • Operating video equipment to include digital cameras, non-linear editing systems and software, external microphones, lighting, sets, and backgrounds as necessary for studio and remote productions.
  • Performing routine preventive maintenance and is responsible for ensuring all ATTC visual equipment is in good repair.
  • Serving as technical advisor and consultant for A/V presentations to instructors and individuals giving presentations at ATTC.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience must include the following:

  • Designing, laying out, and preparing a wide variety of general and technical illustrations or photographs to reproduce the appearance of specific objects or pieces of technical equipment.
  • Producing photographic slides, posters, brochures, and manuals with speed and accuracy necessitated by delivery timelines.
  • Planning layouts and preparing sketches for the customer.
  • Determining the camera, film, paper, lighting and arrangement of subjects needed for photographs.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Master's or equivalent graduate degree in the following fields of study: commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position.

OR

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other field related to the position.

OR

LL.B. or J.D., if related

OR

Combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
