Summary

You will serve as a WATER PLANT OPERATOR in the NUCLEAR PRODUCTION MANAGER, OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

  • You will inspect and maintain the Mixed Waste Accumulation Areas throughout the facility.
  • You will determine the methods and means to accomplish objectives effectively and efficiently.
  • You will handle/transport mixed waste.
  • You will participate as a member of the emergency response team.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION:

*Prepares metal surfaces for painting and inspection by using hand and power wire steel brushes, sanders, grinders, or other various site preparation tooling.
*Escorts radioactive materials when moved between radiological controlled areas, approved storage facilities and worksites.
*Provides oversight inspection of production mechanics to ensure Radioactive Material is adequately identified and properly packaged prior to transfer.
*Operates forklifts to move materials weighing several hundred pounds.
*Operates, inspects, maintains Mixed Waste Accumulation and Satellite areas within the Controlled Industrial Facility (CIF) according to Federal and State Laws.
