Duties

  • You will weld high and low pressure pipes of all sizes and thickness.
  • You will use welding processes (e.g., Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Metal-Arc Inert Glass Welding, Tungsten Inert Gas, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Flux Core Arc Welding, Oxygen-Acetylene Welding, etc.) to complete complex and simple projects.
  • You will use the following cutting processes: Oxygen Fuel Cutting (OFC), Carbon Arc Cutting (CAC), and Plasma Arc Cutting (PAC) to complete complex and simple projects.
  • You will identify safety hazards to take appropriate actions in mitigating danger.
  • You will operate a CNC band saw, press brake, and shear, and iron worker.
  • You will determine welding processes and necessary equipment to be used for the completion of assigned work.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Must be able to obtain a U.S. Government operator's permit to operate a forklift up to 15,000 pounds.
  • You are required to furnish basic hand tools typical of the trade.
  • You must have normal vision and hearing with or without corrective devices, depth perception and the ability to distinguish basic colors
  • Must be able to lift/carry 100 pounds.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to perform common tasks including: welding pipes and metals of all sizes and thickness, and ordering materials for various complex and simple welding projects. Work is performed under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

You must be able to us e the following welding processes: Shielded Metal Arc Welding(SMAW), Metal-Arc Inert Gas Welding(MIG), Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG), Gas Metal Arc Welding(GMAW), Flux Core Arc Welding(FCAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding(GTAW), Oxygen Acetylene Welding(OAW), Torch Brazing(TB), Torch Soldering(TS).

You must be able to setup and operate related tooling such as air drills, electric hammers, electric drills, benders, presses, grinders, anchor drills, sanders, chippers, drill presses, shears, iron workers, automatic bandsaw and other related tooling.

Must be able to weld in all positions: vertical, horizontal, overhead, and flat.

Must be able to weld any thickness metal and all joint types : butt, fillet, plug, and all variations of same.

Must be able to weld pipe, all sizes, and thicknes s, high and low pressure.

Must be able to use the following cutting processes: Oxygen Fuel Cutting (OFC), Cutting (OFC), Carbon Arc Cutting (CAC), and Plasma Arc Cutting (PAC).

This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service
