Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Wire Communications Cable Splicer without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform electrical repairs and identifying physical faults with communication cables; utilizing test measurement and diagnostic equipment to determine nature and location of wiring/cable faults (i.e. volt/ohm/amp meters, ultrasonic leak detector, magnetic probe); conducting transmission tests on various types of communications equipment, facilities, and systems utilizing transmission test equipment (i.e. tracer, envelope delay test set, and time domain reflectometer).. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating
- Physical Effort - Work requires frequent bending, stooping, squatting, climbing, pulling cables, and working in cramped or uncomfortable conditions, underground or at moderate heights for extended periods. Frequently lifts and carries 20 to 100 pounds.
- Working Conditions - Works inside and outside in all weather conditions, and occasionally in crawlways under buildings or in attics. Exposed to injuries from use of hand tools, electrical shock while working with cables which may be electrically charged, falls from high places when installing or repairing aerial cables, and noxious fumes in manholes.
