There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Welder ~ without more than normal supervision.
Applying accepted trade methods using both semi-automatic and manual welding processes; performing fabrications, modifications and repairs on various metal and alloy parts; maintaining close tolerance and strength; Operating carbon arc and oxygen/acetylene equipment; and reading and interpreting shop orders, work orders, and blueprints
- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
- Physical Effort - The work requires standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and crawling. The employee may work in awkward or cramped positions when making welds in hard to read places. The employee frequently handles objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lifts objects in excess of 50 pounds with assistance from other employees or with weightlifting devices, when setting up work and positioning equipment.
- Working Conditions - The employee works inside in areas that are noisy, dirty, and smoky; and outside where there may be exposure to inclement weather conditions. The employee is exposed to fumes, infrared and ultraviolet radiation, heat, flying sparks, glare from torches and heated materials, and the possibility of eye injury, electrical shock, burns, broken bones, and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects. The employee may experience discomfort when wearing protective clothing such as gloves, leather apron, flash shield and goggles.
