Summary

About the position: This position is located at the Marketing Facility, Yokota AB, Japan.

This is a Regular Full-Time position, 35-40 hours per week.

Duties

  1. Serves as the lead writer-editor for the 374th Force Support Squadron (FSS) Horizons monthly magazine and content manager for all ad copy and messaging mediums. Writes and edits copy applying established editorial guidelines and journalistic standards.
  2. Ensures compliance with copyright, Privacy Act, and all other applicable laws, regulations, and policies. Updates content based on trends as needed.
  3. Uses desktop publishing software to develop and compose announcements, press releases, articles, notices, publications, and related material. Proofs all printed and digital collateral for proper spelling, grammar, format, diction, wording, tone, and branding.
  4. Advises Marketing Director of deadlines and requirements for publication of promotional materials. Works closely with the graphic design team for any visual production requirements to ensure proper formatting and messaging is conveyed.
  5. Makes recommendations to Graphic Designers on the creation of promotion material to ensure the marketing effectiveness. Guarantees brand standards and guidelines are being executed pertaining to visual representation to ensure brand consistency.
  6. Oversees the collection and organization of marketing requests from Activity Managers. Reviews requests to ensure essential information is present to draft high-quality content based on customer profiles to increase engagement on 374 FSS marketing mediums.
  7. Consults with Activity managers for verification of accurate information pertaining to upcoming events/programs. Determines vital information for inclusion in a variety of publications and promotional materials to gain the reader's attention.
  8. Under the Marketing Director's direction, assists in selecting promotional techniques and communication strategies to determine the most effective media mix to increase efficiency, participation, and financial revenue for 374 FSS activities.
  9. Assists in conducting qualitative and quantitative market research to gain marketing insights to lead to effective content creation. Supports the administration, analyzation, and presentation of findings from surveys, focus groups, and secondary research.
  10. Keeps abreast of consumer trends and their application to the activities. Makes recommendations to the Marketing Director on program modifications and enhancements.
  11. Helps plan and execute marketing campaigns designed to reach target markets and enhance participation.
  12. Maintains relationships with base entities such as Public Affairs, Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) and Defense Commissary Agency (DECA) to increase base-wide awareness. Briefs and presents at base functions such as Newcomers' Orientation, Commander's Calls, Armed Forces Network (AFN) Radio interviews, Marketing/Activity manager meetings.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
  1. Must have demonstrated journalistic experience and skills in writing, editing, spelling, grammar formatting techniques, proper punctuation, and proofreading.
  2. A working knowledge of FSS is highly desirable. Must have general knowledge of office automation software (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)
  3. Must be proficient in English and demonstrated. Must possess and demonstrate the ability to write, copy, research, organize, select, and arrange material for projects of varying degrees of complexity from concept to final product.
  4. Knowledge of Air Force/Public Affairs regulations and guidelines for publishing; use of logos; paid advertising in produced publications; use of endorsement disclaimer and copyright credits is highly desirable.
  5. May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  6. Must demonstrate good customer service, strong communication skills, and ability to work with little supervision.
  7. This is a position of trust. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a Tier 1 background investigation.
