This National Guard position is for a AMMUNITION INSPECTOR (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D2281000 and is part of the IL USPFO, National Guard.

Duties
As a AMMUNITION INSPECTOR (TITLE 32), WG-6501-9, you will perform the handling, storage, examining, transporting, and identifying of ammunition and explosives to detect defects, serviceability, deterioration, and compliance with all ammunition and explosives regulations, acceptable standards, specifications, or contractual requirements, as well as policy and procedures.
Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:
- Conduct pre-issue inspection of ammunition items prior to issue.
- Check each item for restrictions or suspensions.
- Inspect vehicles, equipment, and storage areas relating to the safety and security of Ammunition and Explosives (A&E).
- Perform receipt inspections on all ammunition and components turned in by using units.
- Assist in the inspection and classification of ammunition throughout the state.
- Inspect small arms ammunition to ensure segregation of ball and blank ammunition.
- Enforce safety regulations and familiar with information regarding safety considerations.
- Possess knowledge of the safe methods of performing different types of ammunition and explosive operations, (demilitarization, renovations, shipping, receiving, testing, inspection and storage).
- Inspect ammunition, performs maintenance, care, preservation, shipping and storage operations, assuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety regulations, drawings, etc. during operations.
- Use and maintain test equipment including calibration equipment.
- Conduct causative research by identifying material with lost identifications or found on post through verification inspection.
- Perform Assists inspections of ammunition storage structures to assure safe storage, compatibility, explosive limits, identify structural deterioration and inventory and security practices.

- NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
- Applicants not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
- Required to wear the military uniform.
- Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- May be required to complete a probationary period.
- Direct deposit is mandatory.
- Must be cleared IAW requirements of AR 190-11 (Physical Security of Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives) and must pass a local and national law enforcement files check.
- Must meet the requirements of DA PAM 385-64, other applicable regulations, as well as validation by the ammunition and explosives safety certification board. Must complete a Training and Certification Program for personnel working in ammunition operations.
- This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition. Civilian personnel of the Department of the Defense are not exempt from this provision. Therefore, as a condition of employment, selectee will be required to sign a form acknowledging understanding of this provision.
- Must be certified in Hazardous Waste Site Personnel (29 CFR1910.120).
- Physical required.
- Must possess and maintain a current state driver's license.
- Drug testing may be required.

Qualifications
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code ? 709), will be in the following manner and sequence,
- The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
- The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
- The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
- The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
- The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens.
Military Grades: Warrant Officer/Enlisted
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training which demonstrates the ability to use and maintain tools and equipment associated with the type of work to be done, and to understand and follow oral and written instructions; experience which demonstrates the knowledge of and the ability to apply safety standards.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-9 Level MUST possess 18 months experience interpreting wiring diagrams and facility blueprints, as well as scale indications in a toxic or radioactive environment; experience planning work sequences and determining the requirements for serviceability of equipment, and know the impact of repairs on related integral devices; experience interpreting technical publications with the ability to assist subordinates or other employees in interpreting technical publications applicable to the detection, identification and destruction of numerous types of explosives and toxic materials.
