Duties
- Identify common hazards related to general worker safety practices during demolition or remediation activities executed by tradesmen or craftsmen, and the equipment used, such as critical lifts, industrial machinery.
- Provide general surveillance of quality assurance activities for demolition/remediation projects.
- Determine work methods or approaches for conducting demolition or remediation of structures on land areas impacted by radioactive materials.
- Serve as a consultant to personnel on the field engineering aspects the SM-1A Nuclear Power Plant Decommissioning Project.
Conditions of Employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position requires the incumbent to travel up to 50% of the time.
- The duties of this position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain a valid state Driver's License.
- This position requires the incumbent to complete or have completed the OSHA-mandated 40 hour training for hazardous waste site operations within 6 months of placement in this position.
- Incumbent must pass physical for performing work in level "C" personal protection and maintain active participation in the Corps of Engineers medical surveillance program as mandated by OSH
- Upon supervisory notification, the incumbent is required to obtain the security clearance requirement of the supported program and/or project.
Qualifications
Position may be filled as a Term appointment NTE 13 months, if the candidate is NOT a current permanent Army employee. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of six years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond 6 six years, but not more than 8 years.
This is a open and continuous announcement. Applicants will be referred periodically throughout the open period and will receive notification of results/referral. In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Reviewing or assessing plans to execute critical lifts made with cranes or other material handling equipment; (2) Performing quality assurance activities associated with demolition or construction projects; or (3) Implementing equipment or safety practices to ensure work is conducted in compliance with all
appropriate safety regulations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
