Duties

Provides professional fitness training to Active Duty personnel at a large command.  Organizes and conducts the full range of physical fitness assessments to include but not limited to:  screening and risk stratification, measurement and evaluation of an individual's aerobic capacity, body fat percentage, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, blood pressure, and functional movement screens Provides individualized and group exercise plans. 

Provides expert instruction and consultation on proper exercise techniques to individuals and groups, and implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive fitness program to improve aerobic fitness, muscular fitness, body composition, flexibility, and functional movement.  Instructs patrons in proper use of a wide range of exercise equipment while training, and how to self-monitor progress either verbally or by composing written instructions for use of equipment, safety and well-being.  Coordinates with and maintains schedules for command representatives to develop and implement physical fitness programming for Active Duty military personnel. 

Analyzes physical fitness testing results and data as compared to norms.  Provides exercise prescription and conditioning based on individual needs, weaknesses, capabilities, interests, and goals.  Plans and develops classes, workshops, and seminars which promote strength, flexibility, and aerobic conditioning.  Assists in promoting Health/Fitness related events and activities.  Works as a resource and in conjunction with various command representatives in implementing physical training and programs for active-duty personnel. 

May serve as the High Intensity Tactical Training (HITT) Program Coordinator providing the HITT Program Components to active duty and reservist service members aboard the base. Provides personal training services within the HITT centers, under the guidance of a Combat Fitness Coordinator.  Implements combat functional training practices following HITT Program methodologies to active duty service members. 

Researches training programs that reflect industry best practices and compliance with Marine Corps policies and regulations, to include conferences and workshops on changing technology.  Researches, and benchmarks emerging trends in the physical fitness industry and observes and reports on potential impacts on the Marine Corps.  Reports on performance of programs to higher authority.    

May register patrons, collect exercise fees, and maintain attendance and appropriate accounting records.  Assists in cleaning and maintaining exercise equipment in proper condition.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner.  Takes action to solve problems quickly.  Alerts the higher-level supervisor or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.  Adheres to safety regulations and standards.  Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.  Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in exercise science or related field from an accredited college or  university in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology Fitness or OR currently enrolled in a program to obtain degree and 5 years experience in related field. Possess a minimum of one year experience within the health/fitness industry.  Possess a current National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA CSCS) certification; USAW Level 1 Coach and NSCA TSAC required. Knowledge of established exercise physiology principles, concepts and techniques to plan and conduct fitness testing, interpret results and develop effective fitness plans. Able to demonstrate knowledge of and skill to administer health screenings, fitness assessments, functional assessments, exercise prescriptions, progressive individual fitness plans, and proper exercise techniques.  Possess a current CPR, AED, and First Aid certificate from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
