Duties
This position has three required selective factors, which are listed in the qualifications section. Applicants MUST meet all three selective factors to be deemed eligible for this position.

This position serves as an Engine Captain and provides leadership in accomplishing fire management objectives in high complexity wildland urban interface/intermix situations, or work environments requiring comparable responsibilities. The primary purpose of this position is to perform wildland firefighting work and during the fire season provides day-to-day operation and administrative supervision of a Fire Engine Module performing such work. This position is appropriate for employees who administratively supervise Engine Modules. The Module performs work directly related to wildland fire suppression, preparedness, prevention, monitoring, hazardous fuel reduction, training, and prescribed fire.
Oversees operation of a fire Engine Module. Responds to wildland fire incidents and positions engine in appropriate locations in consideration of the safety of crew and equipment. Evaluates on-site conditions, makes tactical decisions, and determines appropriate responses. Makes initial size up of fire situations, determines suppression method to use including hose lay types, deployment of crew, point of initial attack, type of tools to use, and application of water, and hand line location and standards. Determines structure defensibility, conducts structure triage assessments, and engages in structure protection in wildland-urban interface incidents. Coordinates module actions with adjoining resources. Keeps dispatcher or superior informed and requests additional assistance as necessary.
Independently and jointly develops and implements training programs (mandatory, formal and informal) to comply with policy and regulations. Training provided may include but is not limited to Incident Command System, fire suppression principles and procedures, fire line construction, hose lay evolutions, maintenance and training in the use of appropriate personal protection equipment, fire engine tactics, fire weather, fires, water and pumps, hand tool use and other related courses. This position may serve as a Duty Officer, providing day to day operational direction for the local unit.
Develops and implements a comprehensive physical training program to enhance the ability of crewmembers to perform the required arduous firefighting duties. Responsible for maintaining personnel incident related qualifications, bureau requirements, local and state laws, and other administrative requirements.

- You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work
- This position has a mixed work schedule based on the varying workload, and your work schedule is subject to change.
- If you are a new employee in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
- You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.
- Subject to frequent extended travel particularly during fire season, and you must obtain a government charge card for travel.
- You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
- Prior to appointment, you must be determined physically fit by an authorized government physician to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties; and also pass a medical examination given by an authorized government physician. You will also be required to periodic medical examinations throughout employment.

Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement 06/15/2024 unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. Selective Factors: The applicant must have possessed all the following National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) incident management qualifications and training requirements to be considered eligible for this position:
- ENGB Engine Boss Currency is required AND
- ICT4 Incident Commander Type 4 Currency is required
- Primary firefighter positions include the following age requirements: Under age 37 -OR- less than age 37 after subtracting the months of Permanent Federal Service worked in a primary or secondary firefighter/law enforcement position -OR- a veteran preference eligible, older than age 37 and is requesting a waiver to the maximum age requirement.
In order to be considered for this position, copies of your Incident Qualification and Certification System (IQCS) Master Record (or equivalent training documents) which contain documented proof of the certification or attainment of the IFPM Selective Placement Factor for this position MUST be attached to your application. Red cards are not acceptable documentation. Currency Requirement: Required to maintain currency once hired into the position. Currency of NWCG qualifications is not required for selection. If not currently qualified, the applicant must provide documented evidence that they have been fully qualified in the past, and are able to regain currency within one year of being hired. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 level, you must possess one of the following:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service. B. One year of graduate level college education in a field directly related to range technician fire work such as a major study in forestry, fire science or a field directly related to this position that has equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of this position. C. Equivalent combination of specialized experience and education as described in the vacancy announcement to qualify for this position.
To qualify for this position at the GS-08 level, you must possess one of the following:
