How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

You will be scored on the questions you answer during the application process, which will measure your possession of the following competencies or knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and techniques of office space management, space planning, layout, furniture and interior design in order to design, plan and implement unusual and complex space planning and interior design projects.
  • Knowledge of Federal statutes, including the Federal Property Management Regulations (FPMR), the American Disabilities Act (ADA), the Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Standards (ABAAS), and local city and state fire and safety regulations in conjunction with Federal Fire/Safety regulations as they relate to the planning, design, use, and occupancy of various projects within the space.
  • Knowledge of advanced and innovative space planning and interior design applications, including the ability to modify standard practice and implement state-of-the-art planning techniques in meeting unusual requirements.
  • Ability in determining space requirements, workstation arrangements, support space characteristics, adjacencies, furniture selection and lighting from both a functional and aesthetic perspective; knowledge of current design concepts which includes telecommuting, hoteling, open office mobility and universal design concepts.
  • Knowledge of principles of building construction, electrical, telephone and mechanical systems necessary to assess and plan solutions to user needs within the constraints inherent to existing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Knowledge of a variety of federal procurement regulations and procedures; Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), including knowledge of simplified acquisition procedures; and Federal Supply Service supply sources required to prepare and award small purchase contracts for interior design and related services.
  • Skill in oral, written, and graphic communication to develop visual representations and present them in a persuasive fashion, including the ability to draft working drawings. Advanced knowledge of capabilities and application of automated technology such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) in order to produce design drawings for interior architecture and furniture.

Your answers to the questions will be used to place you in one of the following categories and standard score ranges:

  • Best Qualified = Candidates scoring between 95 - 100
  • Well Qualified = Candidates scoring between 85 - 94 (Well Qualified for CTAP/ICTAP)
  • Qualified = Candidates scoring between 70 - 84

We will verify your answers to the questions in your resume. If your resume doesn’t support your answers, we may lower your score, which could place you in a lower category.

Within each category, veterans will receive selection priority over non-veterans.

Additional hurdle assessments, such as narrative responses or other assessments, may be administered to applicants who meet the requirements of the first hurdle, e.g., the minimum qualification requirements. If additional assessments are used, you will be provided with further instructions.

If you are eligible under Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan or GSA’s Career Transition Assistance Plan(ICTAP/CTAP), you must receive a score of 85 or higher to receive priority.
