Summary

THIS IS A TITLE 32 DUAL STATUS POSITION

DUTY LOCATION:
Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG), Groton, CT

AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION:

Area 1:
All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the Connecticut Army National Guard.
Area 2: All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and all current traditional members of the Connecticut Army National Guard.

Duties

JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance on aircraft pneudraulic systems.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard.

The major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshoots the aircraft hydraulic system with the aid of portable and fixed test equipment and from a complete knowledge of the system diagnoses any malfunctions of the hydraulic operated devices and makes necessary repairs.
  • Manufactures low, medium, and high pressure hose and tube assemblies per TM requirements or sample including pressure testing of same.
  • Troubleshoots and effects repairs to hydraulic test equipment (shop).
  • May serve up to 20% of the time performing on-the-job training.
  • When designated on NGB Flying Status orders, may participate in aerial flights which are defined by applicable Army publications as Maintenance Test Flights.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works indoors, in inclement weather, on icy, wet and slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces and work stands and in high places up to 40 feet. Subject to the hazards from toxic fumes, high pressure air, and fluids such as aviation fuels, oils, lubricants, hydraulic fluids, etc., engine noise, fumes, heat and blast.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing 50 pounds and over.

  • Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Must possess a valid state drivers license.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates your knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles; knowledge of troubleshooting procedures used to isolate malfunctions in aircraft pneudraulic systems; and ability to use technical manuals, equipment specifications, and test calibration procedures in performing the work.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 6, 12 or 18 months of specialized experience in the following:

WG-05 REQUIRES 6 MONTHS:
  • Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to learn basic electrical and mechanical principles.
  • Experience which demonstrates the ability to learn procedures used to jack and perform hydraulic and pneumatic systems check.
  • Experience in identifying basic malfunctions when source of trouble is easily located by appearance, sound, or response.
  • Experience which demonstrates the ability to learn procedures used to service, maintain, disassemble, assemble and repair pneudraulic ground equipment.
  • Experience using various hand tools.
  • Experience which demonstrated the ability to follow written instructions.
WG-08 REQUIRES 12 MONTHS:
  • Experience or training which provided a knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles.
  • Experience in fabricating fuel, oil and vacuum hose lines.
  • Experience in servicing, maintaining, disassembling assembling, repairing and testing hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience in diagnosing malfunctions and overhauling pneudraulic accessories by disassembling, cleaning part and examining parts.
  • Experience in diagnosing trouble and determining remedies.
  • Experience in servicing, maintaining, disassembling, assembling and repairing pneudraulic ground equipment.
  • Experience using hand tools and test equipment.
  • Experience that demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications and publications.
WG-10 REQUIRES 18 MONTHS:
  • Experience or training which provided a knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles.
  • Experience in fabricating fuel, oil and vacuum hose lines.
  • Experience in servicing, maintaining, disassembling assembling, repairing and testing hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience in diagnosing malfunctions and overhauling pneudraulic accessories by disassembling, cleaning part and examining parts.
  • Experience in diagnosing trouble and determining remedies.
  • Experience in repairing, rebuilding and overhauling major systems of ground equipment and pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience in mechanical repairs using hand tools and test equipment.
  • Experience that demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications and publications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles that apply to aircraft systems.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic principles, the physical laws governing the behavior of fluids (liquids and gasses).
  • Ability to jack aircraft and perform checks.
  • Knowledge of aircraft structure and the relationship of aircraft pneudraulic systems and ability to operate test panels and ground power equipment.
  • Knowledge of aircraft pneudraulic systems and pneudraulic equipment used in maintaining and checking aircraft neudraulic equipment.
  • Knowledge of trouble shooting procedures designed to isolate malfunctions in aircraft pneudraulic systems.
  • Skill in servicing, repairing and maintaining pneudraulic ground equipment.
  • Ability to service, repair and maintain pneudraulic ground equipment.
  • Knowledge of and skill in the repair, and rebuilding of ground equipment pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Skill to use common hand tools and test equipment.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, illustrations, specifications diagrams and schematics to make repairs andmodifications.

COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training.

MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Application): Enlisted: E-1 through E-7
UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any aviation unit within the state

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

STATEMENT OF DIFFERENCE: Individual selected at a lower level will be issued a Statement of Difference. Predicated upon qualifications, individual could be hired at the WG-10 grade. An individual selected for this position at the lower grade will progressively be advanced to WG-10 upon achievement of required qualifications without further competition.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Training at the National Guard Professional Education Center (NGPEC) is a mandatory condition of employment, subject to availability of resources. NGB prescribed courses at NGPEC must be completed within 6 months of assignment to this position. Failure to complete course(s) may result in reassignment or termination of full-time employment unless extenuating circumstances preclude course attendance.

Primary Change of Station (PCS) relocation expenses will NOT be paid.
