Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT FOR ALL GRADES:
Education: Degree that included 3 semester hours each in the following course areas: History of archeology; Archeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa; Regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development; Theory and methods of archeology. Methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating, and analytical techniques; Archeological field school, to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work; AND six semester hours of related course work in: geography, geology, or cultural geography; history, historiography, or historical archeology; environmental studies; scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/or surveying; AND Archeological field school.
OR
Related Curriculum: degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements in A above (including archeological field school).
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described in A above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education.
OR
Experience: Four years of archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Applicants with such field experience should, after additional experience under the direction of a higher-grade archeologist, be able to demonstrate the ability to be a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as a part of a larger archeological project.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications for GS-12:
I have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include researches archeological, historical, ethnographic, and environmental information from archival records, databases, maps, reports, oral histories, other sources to support cultural resource evaluations and management decisions, reviews and evaluates archeological reports, research designs, treatment plans, monitoring reports, site records, eligibility determinations, mitigation proposals, and technical studies for adequacy, scientific validity, compliance with professional standards, provides technical assistance and consultation to managers, program officials, Tribal governments, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders concerning cultural resource management requirements and preservation strategies, develops scopes of work, technical specifications, cost estimates, and performance requirements for archeological contracts, agreements, and cooperative projects, provides expert guidance regarding implementation of NHPA, ARPA, NAGPRA, AIRFA, NEPA, and related laws, regulations, policies, and professional standards, and prepares technical reports, findings, recommendations, correspondence, consultation documents, environmental review materials, and other written products related to cultural resource management activities.
Qualifications for GS-13:
I have 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include provides expert consultation and technical leadership concerning the identification, evaluation, preservation, protection, investigation, treatment, and management of archeological resources and historic properties, develops recommendations, guidance, priorities, procedures, and program strategies related to archeological and cultural resource management activities, plans, coordinates, evaluates, and provides oversight for cultural resource management activities associated with land management, resource stewardship, infrastructure development, environmental compliance, emergency response, provides technical oversight of archeological investigations and cultural resource studies conducted by contractors, consultants, academic institutions, Tribal organizations, and other entities, conducts research and analyzes archeological, historical, ethnographic, environmental, and geospatial information to support resource evaluations, planning efforts, consultation activities, and management decisions, provides expert guidance regarding implementation of NHPA, ARPA, NAGPRA, AIRFA, NEPA, and related laws, regulations, policies, and professional standards, consults and coordinates with Tribal governments, Tribal Historic Preservation Officers (THPOs), State Historic Preservation Officers (SHPOs), Federal agencies, contractors, consultants, academic institutions, and other interested parties regarding archeological and cultural resource matters, represents the organization in meetings, consultations, conferences, workgroups, and professional forums involving archeological and cultural resource management issues.

One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must send a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with your transcript in order to receive credit for that education which shows the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. The full performance level of this position is GS-13.
