Summary

The Treasury Office of Inspector General is responsible for overseeing the operation of all Treasury Department Offices and Bureaus (with the exception of the Internal Revenue Service) and for conducting audits, investigations, and evaluations.

The OIG is looking for a talented executive to serve as its Asst Inspector General for Investigations. This is a Senior Executive Service career reserved position responsible for providing executive-level management for OIG's Office of Investigations.

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include:
1. Leads all OIG investigative activities, ensuring that investigations are pursued, documented, and finalized in accordance with laws and regulations, and the policies and priorities of the Inspector General.
2. Serves as the IG's representative in investigations involving other Bureaus and in interagency investigations.
3. Coordinates with key officials of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and the IG Academy to ensure continuing implementation and improvement of effective investigator training and development.
4. Exercises overall responsibility for managing the OI staff, keeping the Inspector General apprised of future staffing needs and recommending within budget constraints an optimum mix of trainees, junior and senior investigators, and support specialists.
5. Ensures cost effectiveness of investigations and supporting functions including the case management system, the IG Hotline, and other avenues for reporting suspected instances of fraud, waste, and abuse.

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
  • Must submit to a drug test for illegal drugs or substances prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
  • Must file a Public Financial Disclosure Report, OGE 278e, within 30 days of appointment and annually in accordance with the Ethics in Government Act of 1978.
  • If you are selected and your executive core qualifications (ECQs) are not certified by an OPM Qualifications Review Board, your ECQs must be certified prior to appointment.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.
  • Must complete a Declaration for Federal Employment (Optional Form 306) to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested.
  • Must have your paycheck sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, you must certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
  • Must undergo an income tax verification.
  • Must participate in a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
  • Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
  • Must possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and maintain a valid license while you occupy the position.
  • Must carry and use a firearm and maintain firearm proficiency. You are ineligible to occupy the position if you are convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, unless you receive a pardon or the conviction is expunged or set aside.
  • Complete a pre-employment medical examination (including vision, hearing, cardiovascular, manual dexterity, and mobility of extremities) by an authorized Government physician and be determined physically fit to perform strenuous duties.
  • You will be required to undergo regular physical examinations and to maintain a level of physical fitness in accordance with the standards and policies of this agency.

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualification requirements for this position, you must show that you possess the Executive Core Qualifications (ECQ) and Mandatory Technical Qualifications (MTQ) related to this position within your resume - NOT TO EXCEED 2 PAGES. Mandatory Technical Qualifications: Your resume should demonstrate accomplishments that would satisfy the MTQs.
MTQ 1. Experience leading a complex law enforcement and criminal and administrative investigative program.
MTQ 2. Experience directing a program for identifying systemic observations of activities to support efforts to thwart fraud, waste, and abuse and promote efficiency and safety.

Executive Core Qualifications: In addition to the MTQs listed above, all new entrants into the SES under a career appointment will be assessed for executive competency against the below five mandatory ECQs. If your 2-page resume does not reflect demonstrated evidence of the ECQs and MTQs, you may not receive further consideration for the position.

Leading People - This core qualification involves the demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a group toward meeting the organization's vision, mission, and goals, and to drive a high performance, high accountability culture. This includes, when necessary, the ability to lead people through change and to hold individuals accountable.

ECQ 5. Achieving Results - This core qualification involves the demonstrated ability to achieve both individual and organizational results, and to align results to stated goals from superiors.
Note: If you are a career SES appointee or have been QRB certified through successful participation in an OPM approved SES Candidate Development Program, or have SES reinstatement elgibility, you do not need to reflect demonstrated evidence of the ECQs in your resume.
