Job Summary:

The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 650 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, child care, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel

This position is located in the Production Operations Department, House Recording Studio (HRS), Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), U.S. House of Representatives (House). The purpose of the House Recording Studio is to provide live broadcast coverage of House proceedings, livestream coverage of Committee hearings, and full-service television and radio studios to Members of Congress.  This position serves as Audio Specialist.

Key responsibilities include performing a full range of digital audio operations in a live studio environment, including routing, mixing, recording, and editing for high-profile public figures, while supporting special projects and initiatives as assigned.

Travel and a flexible work schedule including occasional weekends and late nights may be required for this position.  Schedule may fluctuate on a biweekly basis to accommodate the service needs of the House. Grade level at time of appointment is determined by experience and designated level of responsibility. The position does not have day-to-day supervisory/managerial responsibilities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform a full range of audio operations for live and prerecorded radio and television programming.
  • Operate all sound equipment including digital recorders, audio mixers, router control panels, and associated software.
  • Set levels, time recordings, perform edits, mix tracks, and facilitate remote integration of VOIP and VTC participants as needed.
  • Create custom openings and closings for recordings upon request.
  • Configure and Monitor audio equipment and report all malfunctions to the Production Operations Manager and inform engineering team as needed.
  • Ability to operate industry standard audio production software, such as ProTools, Dante Controller, Qsys UCI Viewer, etc.
  • Maintain awareness of project and task status and provide stakeholders with updated information when requested.
  • Analyze internal operations and prepare plans of action to improve workflows.
  • Collaborate interdepartmentally to ensure successful deliverables.
  • Train and mentor junior staff.
  • Perform miscellaneous clerical and administrative tasks as needed, including completion and submission of customer work orders to document services rendered.
  • Perform other official duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Professional broadcasting experience with emphasis on live and recorded audio with a minimum of 3 years of audio/visual experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the position or an equivalent level of professional work experience preferred.
