Summary

The Senate Sergeant at Arms is seeking a Broadcast Section Senior Supervisor (STV/Studio). Duties

Supervises and schedules work of studio and Senate television productions. Trains new employees and provides technical instructions on the operation of television production equipment; ensures and maintains technical standards for television productions. Provides production support for Senate proceedings. Participates in Continuity of Operations (COOP) Planning, including exercises, drills and training and writes training manuals to support those exercises. Transports, sets up and breaks down video equipment daily. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Work Experience

  • Five to eight years of technical production experience in radio/television, including experience in the production area supervised.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the operational and maintenance characteristics of television and audio/video recording equipment.
  • Ability to set up video teleconferencing software for use in live television.
  • Ability to supervise, schedule, assign, train, and evaluate the work of assigned technical production staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively while working with others, using tact and diplomacy.

  • Keeps up with new trends in broadcast production equipment, techniques, and emerging software to ensure work remains fresh and innovative.

Working Conditions

  • Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
  • In the event of an emergency, the position may require on-site reporting within 2 hours.
  • Moderate (carrying of items less than 50 pounds)
  • Work requires the employee to be outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Working on ladders, scaffolding, or stages

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in radio/television production.
