Summary

In this position, you will serve as a Data Scientist in the FIMA, Federal Insurance Policyholder Services Division. The ideal candidate has experience performing quantitative analyses and modeling an insurance and/or reinsurance company.

Duties

What will I do in this position if hired?

In this position, you will serve as a Data Scientist. Typical assignments include:

  • Performing quantitative analyses and modeling to provide management with quantitative basis for making insurance program decisions.
  • Performing ad hoc data analysis and database management as needed.
  • Acting as a representative of the Deputy Administrator with contractor staff, insurance companies, and their industry advisory groups, and others in quantitative analysis and reporting.
  • Preparing and presentings analytical summaries explaining and defending studies and model results to various internal and external groups.

This position has a positive education requirement found at Data Science Series 1560. In addition to the minimum qualifications' requirement listed below, you must meet the education listed under Basic Requirements. Submission of transcript is required. Basic Requirements

Basic Requirements:

Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

or

Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this position at the GS-14 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following:

  • Working with large datasets of insurance policy and claims information to identify patterns and trends.
  • Developing frameworks for statistical and quantitative analysis to support decision-making.
  • Evaluating data for validity, applicability, efficiency, and accuracy in catastrophic modeling and statistical analysis.
