Job Description (Please follow all instructions carefully)

Summary

About the Position: The incumbent serves as a prosthodontic specialist responsible for the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and maintenance of oral function, comfort, appearance, and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth and/or maxillofacial tissues using biocompatible substitutes. This position is with the Directorate of Dental Clinical Dentistry in Camp Humphreys, South Korea.

Duties

  • Diagnose, plan treatment, and rehabilitate the oral function, comfort, appearance, and health of patients.
  • Conduct extensive prophylaxis treatment.
  • Perform deep scaling and root planning.
  • Conduct group oral health counseling, tobacco cessation counseling, and diet counseling.
  • Timely submission and accuracy of performance data, dental records, consultation requests and other dental records in approved information management system.
  • Mentor and trains less experienced dentists, ancillaries and allied health professionals

  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 15% of the time.
  • The incumbent may be required to perform call duties, work overtime, attend unscheduled training, or work on an emergency basis, with evenings, nights, rotating shifts, and extended hours common to hospital operations
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Red Cross. Must obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • All Employees assigned to military treatment facilities are required to be screened for applicable immunizations regardless of series, based on occupational risk, and are subject to missing/required immunizations lAW AR 40-562, chapters 3 and 4.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Dentist (Prosthodontics):

Education: Applicants must possess a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Residency: Applicants must have successfully completed an advanced specialty postgraduate residency program approved by the American Dental Association (ADA), or accepted equivalent program, in Prosthodontics.

Experience and/or Education Required:

A. Applicants must have completed a 3-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science.

OR

B. Applicants must have three years of professional dentistry experience and/or training, equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12).

OR

C. Applicants must have completed a residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science AND professional dentistry experience and/or training equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12). When combining residency program and professional dentistry experience and/or training to qualify, the total must be equal to or greater than three years.

Note for Qualifying Experience: Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include e the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position. For specialty dentistry positions, experience, education, board certification, and/or training must clearly establish the applicant's status as a specialist in Prosthodontics.

  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
  • U.S. citizens overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement.
  • Locality pay does not apply in the overseas area.
  • If an employee brings a child to an overseas location and that child is entitled to attend a DoD school on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, the DoDEA and the Military Department responsible for providing related services will ensure that the child, if eligible for special education, receives a free appropriate public education, including related services pursuant to DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.
  • If an employee brings an infant or toddler (up to 3 years of age) to an overseas location, and that infant or toddler, but for the child's age, is entitled to attend the DoDEA on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, then the Military Department responsible for EIS will provide the infant or toddler with the required EIS in accordance with the eligibility criteria consistent with DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.

Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only.
  • Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations. Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.
  • Selectees may receive certain foreign area benefits such as: Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) or government quarters, home leave, etc. Selectees will have their eligibility for foreign area benefits determined at the time of hire in accordance with Department of State Standardized Regulation (DSSR) and DoDI 1400.25 volume 1250.
