Summary
As Deputy Chief of Staff for Administration for the Office of the Assistant Attorney General (OAAG) in the Criminal Division (CRM), Department of Justice, the incumbent serves as a principal advisor to the senior management cadre, consisting of the Assistant Attorney General (AAG), Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General (PDAAG), Chief of Staff (COS), and Chief Counselor, regarding administrative and programmatic matters, and assists in prioritizing tasks and providing decision support.
Duties
The Deputy Chief of Staff for Administration:
- Attends high level meetings and tracks decision points, taskings to others, and required action items to ensure follow through on all outstanding items.
- Intakes requests from Sections and other components for meetings and requests for comments on various administrative items.
- Builds and maintains relationships with Section leadership and Deputy Attorney General and Attorney General leadership to help coordinate the work of OAAG.
- Oversees, manages, and leads programmatic initiatives and the daily operations of the OAAG administrative team and collaborates with the Administrative Officer to ensure strategic alignment with the mission, goals, and objectives of the Division.
- Manages and coordinates tasking responses, work activities, assignments, and projects internal to OAAG, or across the Division, ensuring the effective completion of initiatives and requirements.
- Designs, plans, and participates in management assessment studies to determine the effectiveness of OAAG and Division programs and develops innovative and often novel approaches and recommendations to address systemic problems to improve business operations.
- Conducts and leads research relating to procedural issues and practices in order to adequately respond to inquiries from the Administration, Members of Congress and Congressional committees, Department officials, and top management in the Division and its Sections, on behalf of senior management.
- Oversees the Office of the Assistant Attorney General administrative staff and in doing so, carries out the full range of supervisory responsibilities, including mentoring staff, approving time off and leave, offering recommendations for hire, assigning and reviewing work, identifying training needs (on-the-job as well as formal activities), submitting recommendations for incentive or disciplinary action, developing performance standards, issuing formal appraisals of performance, and resolving disputes and grievances.
- With the Administrative Officer, develops detailed staffing plans to account for a unit with frequent turnover to include constant recruiting, robust training and development plans, knowledge management, and retention strategies.

Qualifications
To qualify for the GS-14 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-13 federal grade level. This experience must include duties such as: reviewing programs and processes to determine whether changes are needed in policies, procedures, or organizational structures; evaluating and analyzing administrative proposals, strategic plans and initiatives; leading strategic initiatives to address operational challenges; and planning and allocating resources and developing long-range and short-term objectives in support of senior leadership and organization goals.
