Duties

The Legislative Computer Systems (LCS) division within the Office of the Clerk, U.S. House of Representatives is seeking a DevOps Engineer II to join our Legislative Applications team.  Our team is mission-driven and works collaboratively across multiple teams and projects. This is a mid-level position that operates within an enterprise IT environment that includes multiple cloud hosted products. We are looking for a DevOps engineer that support multiple continuous integration (CI) environments, increase automation and stability in our deployments and work closely with our operations team to ensure a smooth handoff to our production environment.  You will have the opportunity to contribute to multiple Clerk projects and build your skills in an enterprise environment.

This position is part of an integrated team that includes DevOps engineers, UX designers, business analysts, QA engineers, and software engineers with a range of specialized skills.  We use standard Agile practices and have an established track record of continuously delivering value for the House.  In this capacity you will:

  • Maintain CI environments using common build and deployment automation technologies such as Azure Pipelines, Argo CD, Helm and Kubernetes.
  • Build automation for deployment and application testing to ensure platform stability and quality.
  • Deploy and integrate cloud services for applications and ensure proper system integration in multiple environments.
  • Support engineers and testers with tools and automation.
  • Support release processes and automation of release steps in coordination with system operators.
  • Assist engineers and operators troubleshooting production issues and monitoring applications. 

This is a hybrid position with required on-site work on Capitol Hill, Washington, DC. Telework is available. Occasional work outside normal business hours may be required due to the operational needs of the House.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, and equivalent work experience is preferred.
  • At least three years’ professional software engineering experience.
  • Relevant experience in one or more key technology areas used in our environment, such as Azure, AWS, Azure Pipelines, Github Actions, Git, Github, Argo CD, Docker, Helm and Kubernetes.
  • Must have the ability to learn quickly, work under pressure, work directly with customers and grasp both technical and business-related concepts in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Programming knowledge sufficient to write automation scripts and integrate systems.
  • Must have appropriate background and education to evaluate, program, and design systems, and have supervisory and training abilities.

Additional desired experience

  • Must have an analytical mind and be detailed oriented.
  • Experience managing cloud resources for complex products in private networks.
  • Experience with security tools for scanning and identifying security vulnerabilities in cloud applications.
  • A desire to research and study new emerging technologies for consideration in future and ongoing development efforts.
