Summary

Duties

Oversees the daily operations of the Senate Capitol Visitor Center and Senate Chamber Galleries. Collaborates with the Doorkeeper management to coordinate staff work assignments and schedules. Manages a team of staff by providing performance feedback on a regular basis: completing performance evaluations, and training. Responsible for maintaining order, decorum, and protocol by enforcing Senate Rules in the Senate Galleries. Serves as an emergency coordinator for the Doorkeepers in the Senate Chamber. Other duties as assigned.

  • Assists during special events such as the State of the Union Address, Swearing-In ceremonies, etc.
  • Is always available for sudden recall in response to emergency events affecting the Senate and to potentially
    deploy to alternate sites to support the Senate’s contingency operations.
  • Must be on site when the Senate is in session which may include late nights, overnights, weekends and holidays.
  • Customer service focused and minded to Senators, Senate staff, and visitors.

Required Work Experience

  • Five years of supervisory and/or managerial experience, or equivalent. 

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

  • Leadership and people management of 10-15 staff.
  • Comfortable to enforce rules and protocol for decorum in the Senate Chamber and Galleries.
  • Able to engage with Senators, Heads of State with ease and poise.
  • Identify Senators and Senate Officers.
  • Proficient computer skills, phones, and tablets.
  • Familiar with customer service principles and ability to apply them.

Working Conditions

  • Must be on-site when the Senate is in session which may require long hours, overnights, weekends, and holidays,
    sedentary for extended periods.
  • Work requires frequent physical effort walking, climbing stairs, sitting/standing on post for long durations.
  • Position requires constant interaction with the public in galleries, excessive noise.
  • Required to carry items less than 25 pounds on a regular occurrence; occasional requirement for the carrying of items
    less than 50 pounds.
  • Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the
    employee to be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays,
    and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is
    considered excepted.
  • This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee to be
    available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
