GL-05 Level Qualifications
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GL or GS-04) or equivalent in other pay scales) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
Specialized experience is defined as Performing administrative or clerical work that includes all of the following:
- Maintaining and updating files or records for various purposes such as personnel, clients, or performance files.
- Managing and entering data or information into a database software program.
- Creating, designing, or preparing forms, reports, memos, letters, spreadsheets, and other documents using personal computer and related software applications.
- Proficient in using Microsoft (MS) Office (specifically MS Word and MS Excel).
- Providing customer service and/or technical support (to internal and external customers) via telephone, email, and/or instant messaging or using live chat software tools.
- Good Interpersonal Skills (Working or interacting with clients or customers face-to-face or in person (non-virtual) in a possibly intense or uncomfortable situation).
- Strong reading comprehension skills (Understands and interprets written material, including technical material, rules, regulations, instructions, reports, charts, graphs, or tables; applies what is learned from written material to specific situations).
OR
B. Successful completion of a four-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses completed such as biology; chemistry; computer science; criminal justice; drugs, alcohol, and society; sociology; or other directly related courses. Transcripts must be submitted at the time of the application or by the closing date of the announcement (see Education area below for details).

C. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience are also qualifying. If education is used to meet specialized experience requirements, then such education must include courses directly related to the work of the position. (When crediting education, prorate the number of hours of related courses required as a proportion of the total education to be used).
Previous drug testing experience OR education defined in qualification "B" above is preferred but not required.
Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. To be eligible for the GL-05 position, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-(GL)-04 or higher in the Federal Service.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. |
