What to Expect

  • Provides assistance to the Education Service Officer in the management and administration of the Education Center's mission to provide educational programs to improve the competence of active duty Marines, assisting in their progression, and improving the caliber of education in the Marine Corps.
  • Serves as an educational counselor for the Education Center. Provides primary sources of education information and career counseling to military personnel, their dependents, and other personnel seeking assistance at the Education Center.
  • Provides sound counseling to all military personnel, their family members and eligible civilians regarding educational, career, and vocational opportunities.
  • Performs all duties normally associated with the Tuition Assistance, Basic Skills Education Program and/or the Voluntary Education Program. By means of interviews, academic histories, review of transcripts, various test results, etc. assists counselee in establishing realistic goals, while active duty and post military, and enables the counselee to come to know himself/herself, his/her abilities, aptitudes, academic and vocational potentials, and possible routes to achievement of his/her goals.
  • Serves as the Command's direct representative for coordinating with Federal and State Labor Department.
  • Determines tuition assistance eligibility, advises on veterans affairs education programs and other grants, loans and scholarships.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What are we looking for?

  • A bachelor's degree in education or related field and three years experience in an academic environment related to military voluntary education, providing academic services to students at levels of basic skills through graduate level education OR
  • An appropriate combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to that gained in the above, OR
  • Appropriate experience that demonstrates the acquired the knowledge, skills, and abilities equivalent to that gained in the above. 
  • Knowledge of education principles and processes to help implement and administer educational programs and of the theories, principles, and techniques of education and training to provide educational advisement. 
  • Knowledge of office administration and business activities to provide a professional environment to assist personnel.
  • Knowledge of military structure, procedures, terminology, and policy to assist personnel to enroll in Marine Corps programs and communicate on behalf of the Marine Corps with civilian institutions.
  • Knowledge of counseling techniques, VA and financial aid resources to provide accurate and professional information to enroll in professional college courses. 
  • Effective communication skills to assist in providing accurate information and assistance in a timely manner. 
  • Demonstrated ability to meet and deal effectively with people from diverse backgrounds with a variety of educational goals and concerns to support personal educational goals in a military environment and coordinate with agencies. 
  • Knowledge of publications to include Marine Corps Orders, Marine Corps Base Orders, Department of Defense Directives, Veteran Affairs Circulars, Naval Comptroller Manual, College catalogues and brochures, educational guides and manuals, and other applicable reference materials is desired. 
  • Knowledge of military programs for degree  completion or commissioning. 
  • Knowledge of Military Classification Testing Program administration, regulations, and security. 
  • Knowledge of DANTES Testing Program, regulations and security requirements.
