Summary

This position is in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Superintendent, Senate Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent, Facility Operations Division, Electrical Branch. The incumbent serves as an Electrician Leader on assigned shift.

Duties

This is an Essential-Employee Position.

The employee will be required to report to work during emergencies AND inclement weather situations. Occasional overtime is required.

Maintenance and Repair:

Passing on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started.by distributing the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the work group.

Performs repair and maintenance work on the electrical and electronic components of circuits, systems and controls, such as air conditioning units and power distribution     systems.

Works with a wide variety of standard commercial and/or industrial electrical devices, equipment and systems, including electrical wiring systems.

Repair of equipment at times is performed without the original schematics or drawings.

Electrical Installation and Troubleshooting:

Install, assemble, troubleshoot, modify, repairs and maintains routine and standard electrical lines, circuits, systems and associated fixtures, controls and equipment.

Tests equipment by use of ammeters, voltmeters, meg-ohmmeters and other testing equipment.

Troubleshoots, tests and loads new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems and associated fixtures, controls and equipment.

Electrical Layout or Design Work:

Performs the electrical aspects of construction and renovation work.

Installs electrical devices (conduit, outlets, circuits, etc.) in rooms for which there may not be completed.

Plans and lays out trades work which includes but is not limited to measuring, cutting, routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls.

Determines and places distribution panels, boxes, fittings and connections and installs wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices including electrical service entrances.

Responsible for utilizing a thorough knowledge of and compliance with applicable AOC and OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner.

Electrical Layout or Design Work:

Install electrical devices (conduit, outlets, circuits, etc.) in rooms for which there may not be complete blueprints or schematics available as a result of the age of the facility.

Prepare estimates of material and equipment needed and submits requisitions to supervisor for materials, equipment and supplies necessary to perform the electrical and electronic duties.

Determines and places distribution panels, boxes, fittings and connections and installs wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices including electrical service entrances

Utilize a thorough knowledge of and compliance with applicable AOC and OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas.

Provides or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is utilized

Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Performs the work of a journeyman electrician and ability to lead others in the performance of electrical work.

Skill and Knowledge- 

  • Knowledgeable of the installation, operation and troubleshooting of sophisticated electrical and electronic circuits/equipment and standard electronic components and controls.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical devices containing electronic components in order to isolate the cause of the malfunction of electrical control systems, analog/digital controls and solid-state motor control circuits in equipment.

Responsibility

  • Responsible for planning and laying out the routing, placement and arrangement of complex electrical systems, circuits, controls and equipment.
  • Ability to plan and lay out work with a minimum of supervision

Physical Effort

  • Required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment and parts weighing up to 20 pounds and less often, up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions

  • Sometimes required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 or more feet.
  • Occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns and rotary device, such as electrical motors.
