Job Description (Please follow all instructions carefully)

Summary

Serves as an FAA Logistic Center Electronic Technician. Performs basic and progressively more difficult assignments associated with inspecting, troubleshooting analyzing, repairing, overhauling, fabricating and installing FAA, DoD, International, and other Agency systems such as National Airspace System (NAS) systems and Inter-Agency Agreement (IAA) systems.

Duties

Assists more experienced technicians or engineers on various and multiple assignments but will assume more independence as basic technical knowledge and experience is acquired. Applies basic technical knowledge and limited experience to accomplish tasks. Receives formal and on-the-job instruction in engineering, mechanical, and electronics fundamentals, Federal Aviation Administration Procedures, and technical publications as they apply to assigned organization or discipline.

Works with more experienced technicians to performs a mix of routine and varying assignments in the field of electronics and electrical theory, such as digital and Radio Frequency (RF) theory, data communications techniques, computer-controlled equipment, transmission lines, electronics systems and using various types of basic and complex electronics test equipment. Performs inspections, troubleshooting, analyzing, repairing, overhauling, fabricating, and installing FAA, DoD, International, and other Agency systems.

Work is reviewed to an extent consistent with the complexity of the assignment. Works with increased independence but refers more complex technical problems and questions to a more senior technician, team lead, or supervisor. Supervisors, team leaders, or more experienced technicians define objectives, resources, and deadlines. Established manuals procedures and publications provide detailed guidance for almost all assignments. Work is reviewed carefully and frequently at completion for quality and timeliness.

Regularly refers problems and questions to more experienced technicians, but with assistance will utilize various skills associated with remote installations, (i.e., construction site skills, including basic carpentry for concrete forms, working with concrete for shelter installations, and operating mechanized construction equipment such as skid steer loaders, trenchers, excavators, and towing/backing trailers), of National Airspace System (NAS), DoD and other Agency systems. Training and licensing for such equipment will be provided by the organization, if required.

May work with higher level technician to apply electrical, mechanical, and structural knowledge to interpret building plans, engineering drawings, electrical schematics and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to lay out the routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balances, load, continuity and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls.

Under the guidance of higher-level technicians will performs electrical installations (conduit bending, electrical connections, wire installation, grounding and bonding of electrical components, lightning-protection, home-station electrical and electronic installations) compliant with National Electric Code and FAA standards.

Travel: Travels extensively (typically 2/3 work time is TDY to CONUS locations) while providing services in the field in support of various programs and agreement requirements. These on-site services include but are not limited to facility installations, site inspections, facility removal and replacement, and system level analysis. Follows established safety and security practices in accordance with Agency and AJW-L policies and regulations. Reports security violations to the appropriate lead, manager, or security officials.

This position will require a special security (i.e., Background Investigation) level to support the CBP program.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the FV-F level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FG/GS-5. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience includes: Experience performing installations, maintenance (Both Preventative and Corrective), and electronics or signal testing on complex projects or systems, e.g., replacement of system components and/or site maintenance across a large geographical area i.e. the Continental United States (CONUS). Coordinating complex projects with internal team members and external contacts. Reviewing parts of project designs done by others, and written specifications to prevent any possible conflicts with design areas (structural, mechanical, electrical, etc.), system specifications, or scheduling.

Applicant should include examples of specialized experience in their Work History.

Education: Successful completion of (a) all the requirements for a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or electronics technology, or (b) 3 years of study in an accredited (by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET) curriculum in electronics, or (c) a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that included major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-4 or equivalent. At least 12 of the 24 semester hours must have been in electronics courses.

Combining Education and Experience: Combination education and experience may be qualifying for this position.

AND

Physical Requirements: You must be able to perform efficiently the essential functions of the position without hazard to yourself or others. Selectee must pass a pre-employment physical prior to appointment.
