Duties
Makes or repairs clothing which involves complex and varied construction techniques. Performs hand basting and tacking operations on tailored garments; pinning or basting flag parts together in intricate designs preparatory to sewing. Patches, darns, reweaves, and reinforces weak spots, tears, holes, worn areas, frayed sections and open seams. Measures, fits and marks garments for minor alterations such as hemming or adjusting waistlines and sleeve lengths. Makes alterations such as shortening or lengthening sleeves, legs, and hems, raising or lowering collars, and expanding or narrowing waist and chest of unlined garments without changing the basic shape. Makes or repairs articles that have fairly simple construction features and need little fitting. Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications
Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of how fabric items are made. Ability to use a variety of construction and repair methods. Ability to determine dimensions of parts from patterns or samples. Ability to use simple arithmetic to figure yardage of fabric needed. Ability to cut patterns to ensure replacement parts will match the print or weave of the original article. Skill to cut parts to exact dimensions and trim and shape edges preparatory to sewing. Skill to patch, darn, reweave, and reinforce weak spots, tears, holes, worn areas, frayed sections, and opened seams. Ability to replace damaged or missing parts with new parts made from patterns, samples, or damaged parts used as patterns. Ability to fit garments on wearers, mark areas requiring alteration, and make alternations. Skill to operate regular and heavy-duty sewing machines. Skill in using a variety of hand and power tools such as wire brushes, irons, ripping aids, scissors, shears, and skivers. Responsibility: Receives written or oral instruction, prints, technical manuals, work orders, and alteration and repair tags that specify what is to be done and the materials to be used. Follows accepted methods, procedures, and techniques to compete assigned tasks. Completed work is checked for adherence to specifications. Physical Effort: Work usually is performed standing to measure mark, and cut materials. Sits for long periods at sewing machines. Considerable stooping, bending and kneeling. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance. Working Conditions: Subject to cuts, bruises, punctures, scratches, and other minor injuries or irritation from handling sharp tools and materials treated with special finishes.
