HHS SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:
U.S. Public Service Commissioned Corps officers are detailed to Department of Homeland Security as described in a Memorandum of Agreement.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:
The UC works under the general supervision of the IHSC Deputy Assistant Director, Healthcare Compliance Division.
Assignments are generally long-term, recurring, or broadly defined in nature. The officer independently plans and organizes their work, determines the sequence of tasks, and selects or develops appropriate methods. Assistance from subject matter experts is rarely required. Work is reviewed based on the achievement of objectives.
Guidelines may be applicable to portions of assignments but often contain inconsistencies or are only partially established. The officer exercises judgment in interpreting and adapting existing policies, regulations, precedents, and directives-such as Public Health Service (PHS) policies-for application to specific situations. This requires moderate modification, innovation, and the selection of appropriate methods from available options.
The officer evaluates outcomes and recommends updates to guidelines or program policies. Any significant modifications or innovations to established procedures must be clearly documented and approved. The officer keeps the supervisor informed of project status and consults on significant issues as needed.
