Summary

About the Position: This is a full-time temporary civilian faculty position at the USAWC under Title 10 USC. Initial appointment is for one year. Appointment may be extended thereafter subject to job performance, organizational needs, and availability of funding.

Duties

  • Lead the USAWC Futures and Emerging Technology Lab; a futures-focused, hands-on learning facility designed to educate students, faculty, and staff on the capabilities and limitations of a wide range of technologies.
  • Develop and teach classes and lessons which focus on immersing students in hands-on use of Lab technologies.
  • Use the Lab to facilitate student and faculty research, writing, and perspectives on future and emerging technologies.
  • Support and conduct Army and U.S. Government level research and publication on Futures and Emerging Technologies.
  • Participate in wargames and workshops; write and publish on matters of strategic importance related to futures and emerging technology.
  • Represent the USAWC at professional conferences, seminars, and meetings; and develop/support USAWC conferences, seminars, and meetings.
  • Engage in internal and external service in support of institutional missions.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a travel requirement up to 20% of the time.

This is a full-time temporary appointment in the excepted service not to exceed. Temporary appointments may be extended in up to 1-year increments.

Qualification Requirements:

Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position; or Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field; or four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

In addition to meeting the Qualification Requirements above, applicants will be rated on the following:

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be rated on the criteria listed below:

1. Ability to lead a hands-on experiential laboratory or workshop focused on technology or science.

2. Ability to develop and deliver classes and lessons focused on immersing students in new technologies or capabilities.

3. Skill in using a hands-on laboratory or workshop to support curriculum, research, and outreach.

4. Active involvement in professional networks relevant to future and emerging technologies.

5. Academic Accomplishment: Graduate degree in a STEM discipline or any graduate degree and relevant work in a STEM field or STEM laboratory or workshop setting is strongly preferred.
