The AFRL Munitions Directorate seeks to fill a high-level DR-0801-02, General Engineer in the Advanced Concepts Division (RWC), Munitions Branch (RWCD) at Eglin AFB in Valparaiso, Florida.

Duties

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serves as Project Engineer in the Advanced Concepts Division under the direction of the Branch Chief.
  • Manages the research, development, and demonstration of advanced technologies in multiple areas related to munitions in coordination with portfolio managers and mission partners.
  • Assigned programs entail unique and challenging complexities, substantial uncertainties, and risks associated with administering the advanced and diverse Science and Technology (S&T) programs.
  • Engages with government stakeholders and industry partners as necessary to guide S&T focus areas and project specific objectives all while facilitating multidisciplinary teams to ensure project(s) financial management, contracting, security, and information assurance requirements are met.
  • Executes S&T projects to meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives within prescribed fiscal and time constraints as well as executing policies and procedures comply with unique security requirements and achieve team mission objectives.
  • Applies science and engineering principles to day-to-day activities and provides informed recommendations for major decisions in addition to advising and recommending technical solutions to portfolio managers, branch, and division leadership.

  • This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level/Tier 1 (Foundational) Non-Critical certification in Engineering and Technical Management (N).

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the basic education and/or specialized experience requirements. Specialized Experience is defined as work in the private or public sector performing duties in or related to the work of the position being filled.

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the DR/DO-01 (GS-11 or equivalent) in other pay systems, , which includes aerial delivered weapon systems and subsystems research, development, demonstration, acquisition, and/or test and evaluation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work done at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (The following will be used to help rate and rank eligible candidates):
  • At least two years of experience with primary duties in weapon systems and subsystems research, development, demonstration, acquisition, and/or test and evaluation.
  • Experience interacting with government peers and contractors on technical topics and consolidating various inputs into requirements documents to drive technology development.
  • Ability to create technology road maps and/or project plans to meet warfighter requirements.
  • Experience working classified research and development and/or acquisition programs.
  • Experience with budgeting, planning, milestone identification, milestone tracking, risk management, budget execution, and reporting.
  • Experience interfacing/collaborating with or within the Department of Defense research/acquisition community.
  • Ability to cultivate a professional, respectful environment of cooperation, cohesion, and teamwork.
  • Ability to lead small technical teams to achieve significant milestones, execute test activities, and collaborate with transition partners.
  • Ability to address complex technical/programmatic challenges with creativity and a sense of urgency.
  • Experience preparing and briefing technical concepts to senior leadership and peers in dynamic technical forums.
