Support the Military's Quality of Life programs! The Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) department of Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) provides fitness, recreation, lodging and food and beverage programs for service members, their families, retired military and civilian employees. This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Sports, Fitness, and Aquatics Branch; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations command (CNIC); NAS Whidbey Island.

Duties
- Performs preventative maintenance on a wide variety of cardio and strength equipment, such as treadmills, elliptical machines, cycles, and cabled strength training apparatuses.
- Installs, troubleshoots, diagnoses problems, replaces or repairs parts, calibrates, tests, and makes adjustments.
- Reads and interprets equipment manuals, instructions, and work plans to perform services.
- Ensures manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedules are followed.
- Keeps all tools and measuring devices organized and in good repair.
- Keeps work areas clean and organized.
- Disposes of unserviceable equipment through proper channels.
- Performs various grounds and facility general maintenance tasks including facility preparation and general cleaning in support of program needs.
- Uses a computer software program to document and track equipment's date of purchase, service schedules, usage, problems, repairs, parts used, and disposal.
- Maintains job related instructions, standard operating procedures, forms, and other written information to ensure the safe operation of fitness equipment, tools, and machinery.
- Meets Safety Data System standards, ensures equipment, work areas, and facilities comply with environmental and safety standards.
- Ensures strict 100% compliance with all hazardous materials (HAZMAT) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) instructions. The supervisor is notified of any HAZMAT or OSHA deficiencies.
- Uses technical manuals, catalogs, and consults with vendors and manufacturers to research and order equipment, parts, tools, and materials necessary for equipment maintenance and repair.
- Adheres to strict internal controls to protect fixed assets, minor property, supplies, and records. Responsibility includes fitness equipment and tool inventory control.
- Determines and requests necessary maintenance and repair supplies.
- Ensures equipment maintenance expenses are within budget.
- Provides budget input by advising supervisor of equipment, maintenance, and repair shop needs.
- Schedules equipment repair and maintenance service training seminars (for self and fitness personnel) with vendors.
Requirements
Conditions of Employment
- Must be able to work varied work schedules to include split days off, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Subject to recall.
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR, AED, First Aid, and other program specific certifications within 90 days of hire.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Fitness or Recreation Equipment Repair Certification within six months of hire.
- Must be enrolled into direct deposit within 30 days of hire.
- Must successfully complete required background investigation.
- Must be able to stand for long periods or time, walk long distances, bend, stoop, pull, reach, lift or push object equal or less to 70 pounds.
Qualifications
Must have a minimum of two years of experience in equipment maintenance and repair. Must demonstrate ability to read and comprehend manuals and instructions used in repairing equipment.
- Knowledge and ability to evaluate, troubleshoot, analyze, and identify equipment problems and repair to industry standards. Level of knowledge and performance required is not that of a full performance engine or large equipment mechanic, but must have strong knowledge of both mechanical and electrical components for small motors and equipment requiring adjustment, calibration and preventive maintenance for optimum performance.
- Knowledge of record keeping related to preventative maintenance and inventory control.
- Knowledge of hand and power tools and equipment required for maintaining and repairing equipment.
- Knowledge of OSHA and HAZMAT principles, procedures and policies to ensure compliance with laws, regulations and policies related to those areas.
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Ability to use job-related software.
- Ability to effectively facilitate staff and management equipment maintenance briefings.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Education
A minimum of a high-school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
