Summary
This role is located in Office of Inspector General, Office of Investigations. The primary purpose of the position is to conduct or assist in the investigations of administrative and civil cases involving waste, fraud, abuse, and misuse affecting NSF programs and operations.
This position is designated as Remote Eligible. The duty station will be determined based on the incumbent selected.

Duties
As an Investigator, you will perform the following duties:
- Conducts comprehensive research and analysis of cases to determine the applicable laws which include civil, criminal, and administrative violations and the proof request to support such cases and methods used to obtain them.
- Plans, coordinates and initiates contacts with Federal, state, and local officials and other key officials related to matters under investigation for the purpose of facts, signed statements, explanation of actions and to learn the sequence of events and background information.
- Plans and conducts interviews with subjects, witnesses, and confidential sources in furtherance of case development.
- Conducts special projects for studying and resolving existing and potential investigative issues and evaluates laws and regulations that pertain to Federal, state, and local statutes that may have been violated.
- Assists DOJ and U.S. Attorneys in the preparation of cases; assists Federal and state prosecutors in the preparation of evidence and exhibits for trial.

Qualifications
To qualify at the GS-11 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in Federal service performing work involving planning, conducting, or managing non-criminal violations of Federal laws. Examples of experience include: investigating individuals or organizations that sought or received financial benefits in the form of grants from the federal government where assignments involved difficulty in resolving conflicts of facts or evidence, handling evidence, and participating in law enforcement working groups. OR:
- Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR;
- Completed 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, OR;
- Completion of all requirements for an LL.M. degree from an accredited college or university in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position that would otherwise substitute for specialized experience.
To qualify at the GS-12 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service performing work involving planning, conducting, or managing non-criminal violations of Federal laws.. Examples of specialized experience include: investigating individuals or organizations that sought or received financial benefits in the form of grants from the federal government where assignments involved difficulty in resolving conflicts of facts or evidence; handling evidence; research trends in IT and computer forensics, data hiding and data storage methods, and participating in law enforcement working groups.
