Duties
The
Green & Gold Congressional Aide Program (G&G CAP) was established to create
employment opportunities for Veterans, Gold Star families, and Active-Duty spouses
within the U.S. House of Representatives. These positions provide Aides with the experience and exposure
necessary to broaden their career opportunities. This position is assigned within a House Officer and will serve in
Washington, DC. These are
two-year, paid, full-time employment opportunities.
This
position supports security-related projects across the Capitol Campus. The role
involves working closely with U.S. Capitol Police, Architect of the Capitol,
and other partners to help review and track projects. Responsibilities include
attending meetings, taking notes, helping prepare agendas, and keeping records
up to date. The ideal candidate should be organized, a good communicator, and
comfortable working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Basic
knowledge of project management tools and a willingness to learn are important
for success in this role.
This position is part of the Police Services/Law Enforcement
Division, Office of the Sergeant at Arms (SAA), U.S. House of Representatives
(House). The Division of Police Services/Law Enforcement (PS/LE) is the law
enforcement division within the Office of the Sergeant at Arms, U.S. House of
Representatives. The division coordinates with the United States Capitol Police
(USCP), the Senate Sergeant at Arms (SSA), and the Architect of the Capitol
(AOC) and other legislative branch entities to ensure the safety and security
of the Capitol complex, Members of Congress, Congressional staff and visitors.
Major Duties
Typical duties include, but are not necessarily limited to:
- Stakeholder Liaison & Advocacy: Serves as a liaison between Capitol campus partners (AOC, USCP, SAA, etc.), advocating for Member office needs and ensuring minimal disruption during projects.
- Project Coordination: Assists in defining project scopes, timelines, and schedules while supporting deconfliction efforts across campus initiatives.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintains accurate project documentation, prepares status updates, and contributes to post-project reviews and lessons learned.
- Security & Emergency Support: Applies basic security awareness in project contexts and supports leadership during critical events through the House Coordination Center.
- Technology & Tools: Utilizes project management platforms such as Microsoft Project, ClickUp, Asana, MS Teams, and Outlook to support coordination and tracking.
- Program & Leadership Support: Aids in managing campus security programs and provides direct administrative and operational support to Campus Security leadership.
- Additional duties as assigned

Veterans:
- Honorably
discharged;
- Released from
active duty within the last six years
- Pay grades at
or below E-5/O-3/W-2
- Veterans promoted
to the pay grades of E-6/O-4/W-3 WITHIN 6-MONTHS OF SEPARATION from active
duty may be eligible if they meet ALL other requirements.
- Veterans who are in receipt of a 20-year or Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA)
retirement are not eligible for the program.
Gold Star Families:
- A surviving spouse, child/step-child, parent/step-parent, or sibling/step-sibling of a veteran who died:
- In the line of duty while serving in the Armed Forces; or
- from a service-connected disability.
Active-Duty Spouses:
- Must be the spouse of an Active-Duty service member. Active-Duty service members work for the military full-time and are subject to permanent change of station or permanent change of assignment orders upon completion of each tour of duty.
- Those subject to Title X mobilization are not eligible

Qualifications
Experience and/or
Education Requirements:
Associate degree or equivalent experience, preferred.
Customer service experience preferred.
Qualifications:
Candidates will work with the Communications team to deliver
positive, empathetic and professional customer service experiences, and will understand
the role and importance of metrics and organizational change. Proficiency in
Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
Physical Requirements and
Work Environment:
This position is
in an office setting that is adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated. Normal
safety precautions apply. The work involves carrying light items such as books,
paper and small office equipment. The incumbent must be able to meet minimum
physical requirements (lifting, bending, crouching, standing, etc.). This
position is based on site and will have limited telework opportunities.
