Summary

This position is limited to Veterans, Gold Star family members and Active-duty spouses desiring to serve a two-year paid Congressional Fellowship as part of the House of Representatives. Selected Fellows will work directly for a Member of Congress or other House officer as part of an office team.

Duties

The Green & Gold Congressional Aide Program (G&G CAP) was established to create employment opportunities for Veterans, Gold Star families, and Active-Duty spouses within the U.S. House of Representatives. These positions provide Aides with the experience and exposure necessary to broaden their career opportunities. This position is assigned within a House Officer and will serve in Washington, DC. These are two-year, paid, full-time employment opportunities.


This position is in the Communications and Marketing department of the Customer Experience Center (CEC), Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), U.S. House of Representatives (House).
The team writes, brands, and creates marketing campaigns and materials on behalf of the CAO. This position serves as the Administrative Assistant.
The position does not have day-to-day supervisory/managerial responsibilities.

Major Duties:

  • Maintains the weekly and monthly calendar for House intranet sliders, campus-wide digital monitor advertisements, and other campus materials.
  • Develops and maintains a tracking system for email marketing analytics with the aim of improving staff engagement and identifying opportunities to reevaluate marketing strategies.
  • Provide customer service to CAO departments and staff reaching out through the general CAO communications email inbox.
  • Analyzes incoming requests to either satisfy the request within the CAO Communications and Marketing team or determine the proper routing for the request with the aim of providing a resolution at the first point of contact.
  • Maintains emergency materials and constantly updates contact information for all CAO Communications staff.
  • Organizes and maintains office supplies, equipment inventory, and equipment maintenance request within the Communications office.
  • Maintains general working knowledge and understanding of CAO Communications services, practices, and procedures.
  • Provides general support with/on a wide variety of administrative and customer focus tasks, as well as other miscellaneous assignments and planning initiatives.
  • Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned.

Veterans:

  • Honorably discharged;
  • Released from active duty within the last six years
  • Pay grades at or below E-5/O-3/W-2
    • Veterans promoted to the pay grades of E-6/O-4/W-3 WITHIN 6-MONTHS OF SEPARATION from active duty may be eligible if they meet ALL other requirements.
  • Veterans who are in receipt of a 20-year or Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA) retirement are not eligible for the program.

Gold Star Families: 

  • A surviving spouse, child/step-child, parent/step-parent, or sibling/step-sibling of a veteran who died:
    • In the line of duty while serving in the Armed Forces; or
    • from a service-connected disability.

Active-Duty Spouses: 

  • Must be the spouse of an Active-Duty service member. Active-Duty service members work for the military full-time and are subject to permanent change of station or permanent change of assignment orders upon completion of each tour of duty.
    • Those subject to Title X mobilization are not eligible

Qualifications

Experience and/or Education Requirements:

Associate degree or equivalent experience, preferred.
Customer service experience preferred.

Qualifications:

Candidates will work with the Communications team to deliver positive, empathetic and professional customer service experiences, and will understand the role and importance of metrics and organizational change. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite preferred.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

This position is in an office setting that is adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated. Normal safety precautions apply. The work involves carrying light items such as books, paper and small office equipment. The incumbent must be able to meet minimum physical requirements (lifting, bending, crouching, standing, etc.). This position is based on site and will have limited telework opportunities.
