Duties

Responsible for day to day operations of assigned areas within the Housekeeping Department, servicing approximately 350-400 hotel rooms per day. Plans and supervises the work of approximately 35-40 personnel, to include NL-04 Housekeeper Leaders, NA-03 Housekeepers, NA-03 Custodial Workers, and NA-04 Laundry Machine Operators. Prepares work schedules, adjusting as necessary in case of absences or other requirements. Maintains time and attendance rosters for all housekeeping department employees. Schedules annual leave and approve leave request for subordinates. Conducts housekeeping hands on training. Encourages and acts upon employee suggestions for work improvement. Regularly checks work performance for compliance with instructions and adherence to prescribed standards of cleanliness and sanitation. Briefs new personnel of standard operating procedures and standards to be met and closely monitors on the job training.

Demonstrates work methods and provides work-related directions. Completes room/area inspections to check for quality of service and adherence to service standards. Ensures employee work meets productivity goals and initiates changes in work pace and/or workload when necessary. Plans and schedules for low and peak periods of occupancy. Responsible for inventory, cash controls, accountability and security of merchandise and equipment. Conducts physical inventories and prepares inventory reports. Ensures worksite materials and tools are available to complete work. Orders cleaning supplies and equipment to maintain proper operating levels. Conducts physical inventories and prepares inventory reports. Maintains daily administrative work, including preparation and submission of accounting records, and operational reports. Initiates work orders for repair and maintenance. Resolves guest complaints and issues related the housekeeping operations.

Supervises employees to include, but not limited to: scheduling, assigning and distributing work, coaching, counseling, tutoring, and mentoring employees; approving and disapproving leave, recommending and completing personnel actions, completing performance reviews and signing timecards, training employees, keeping abreast of and actively supporting the principles of the EEO Program, and prevention of sexual harassment. Must be alert to alcohol abuse and take appropriate action.

May perform duties of Housekeeper, Laundry Operator, and/or Custodial Worker duties as necessary.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

Develops and ensures implementation of an activity safety program in accordance with the Base Safety Program. Conducts safety meetings. Advises employees of available safety regulations, instructions, materials and equipment. Promptly reports workplace accidents to the Human Resources Office. Ensures safety training is provided to employees. Complies with OSHA Standards and takes action to correct unsafe or unhealthy working conditions. Ensures employees understand safety infractions that can result in disciplinary actions and follows through with appropriate actions. Ensures minimal loss of duty by complying with "Return To Work" program initiatives, and following up on employee well being.

Qualifications

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Must be knowledgeable in the operation of a Housekeeping Activity. Must have experience in and thorough knowledge of housekeeping procedures, cleaning materials, and equipment. Must have knowledge of proper care and maintenance of carpets and furniture. Ability to handle and control heavy powered equipment. Advanced knowledge of proper uses of a variety of special cleaning and sanitizing solutions and ability to remove different kinds of stains from a wide variety of surfaces. Detailed knowledge of proper procedures to store chemicals and equipment and safely perform work. Ability to read and understand directions on labels and printed instructions. Basic skills in business administration, scheduling, accounting, policies and performance standards. Skill to supervise employees in the accomplishment of work. Strong ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

RESPONSIBILITY: Works independently on daily routine schedule following established procedures and policies. Must use judgment in dealing with supervisory problems. May consult with a higher-level supervisor on non-routine issues.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires constant standing, bending, stooping, reaching and lifting of objects. Climbs ladders and operates industrial equipment. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed indoors under normal conditions; however, outdoor work is performed, when required, in all kinds of weather. Exposed to vibration from heavy equipment, strong odors and skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions.
