This National Guard position is for a Health Technician (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D2061000 and is part of the JFHQ-G1 located in Draper, UT, with the Utah Army National Guard.

Duties

Major Duties: This is not an all-inclusive list

As a Health Technician (TITLE 32), GS-0640-7, you will:

  • Serves as the subject matter expert on Individual Medical Readiness (IMR).
  • Responsible for collection, input, and management of medical readiness information for the Battalion/Squadron and subordinate units.
  • Coordinates and ensures the timely and accurate input of data regarding physicals, dental, immunizations, HIV/DNA, and profiling into the automated medical records and management systems.
  • Requires the ability to organize and research patient records, extract needed information, and review records for completeness, accuracy, and consistency within established guidelines.
  • Provides detailed information regarding the processes and procedures needed to develop action plans to increase medical readiness.
  • Develops and provides regular/recurring IMR reports to subordinate units to support the scheduling of annual medical readiness requirements.
  • Consolidates and forwards subordinate units' requests for funding and medical resources, both military and civilian, to accomplish annual and recurring medical readiness requirements.
  • Reviews, validates, and forwards requests for temporary and/or permanent medical actions to include profile determination and medical boards (e.g. fitness for duty evaluation (FFDE), military occupational skills/medical retention board (MMRB), medical evaluation board/physical evaluation board (MEB/PEB)).
  • Prepares, reviews, schedules, monitors, and submits line of duty investigations and packets for required medical review and/or action.
  • Monitors the execution of all medical readiness events (military and civilian) to ensure compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations and that required documentation is submitted to facilitate payment.
  • Monitors the posting of updated information derived from annual and recurring medical requirements (e.g. periodic health assessments (PHA), required immunizations, dental exams, physicals exams, profiling requirements) and other directed medical readiness requirements.
  • Is the subject matter expert for continuing education/certification requirements for enlisted medical personnel and combat lifesavers.
  • Maintains records and analyzes data from the medical occupational data system (MODS).
  • Maintains consolidated reports regarding the status of sustainment training and qualification of all medical personnel.
  • As a member of the command readiness inspection team, collects data and/or information used in the evaluation of individual medical readiness.
  • Consolidates medical data for the preparation of the organizational readiness report.
  • Ensures subordinate unit personnel maintain medical records in accordance with Army regulations/instructions and other established guidelines.
  • Adheres to and provides guidance to subordinate units concerning regulations, policies, directives, and standards pursuant to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy Rule and the release of medical information/records.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to subordinate unit personnel in the completion and maintenance of medical readiness information required for individual mobilization packets.
  • Monitors and tracks the status of mobilized personnel with pending medical actions.
  • Advises the Battalion/Squadron staff on manual and automated medical record management programs relative to documentation, regulations, directives, and organizational readiness reporting requirements.
  • Assists in processing, documenting, storing, and retrieving medical records information IAW laws and regulations.
  • May assist with a variety of administrative/clerical support functions to ensure the effective operation of the office.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership.   • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance.
  • Must maintain HIPAA certification.

  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

  • Soldiers who accept a technician position may be terminated from the Bonus and Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP).

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Education, or training which provided a basic knowledge of principles and practices related to the health care delivery system.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
1 year as a GS-0640-6? *Must submit SF 50 to verify*
OR have at least 12 months that equipped yourself with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
  • Knowledge of a standardized body of laws, regulations, and procedures to provide regulatory guidance and recommendations to the Battalion/Squadron and subordinate personnel in the area of medical readiness and standards of fitness.
  • Knowledge of procedures for requesting military and civilian medical support resources to coordinate, execute, and update required documentation that supports individual medical readiness.
  • In-depth knowledge of the automated medical records and management system to provide guidance and instruction to Battalion/Squadron and subordinate units for the timely and accurate input of data.
  • Practical knowledge to retrieve and/or query data to develop reports essential to support the command's medical readiness requirements.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, medical procedures, civilian medical coding, and other medical requirements sufficient to analyze available data, identify trends and shortfalls, and provide recommendations for improvement actions.
  • Knowledge of the regulations, policies, and procedures that apply to the physical evaluation system (fitness for duty evaluation, military occupational skills/medical retention board (MMRB), medical evaluation board/physical evaluation board (MEB/PEB)) to facilitate timely and accurate adjudication of medical board actions.
  • Broad knowledge of automated medical occupational data systems utilized to manage, report, and track medical qualifications and certifications.
  • Knowledge of military and civilian continuing education requirements to obtain and maintain military medical qualifications.
  • Knowledge of medical readiness indicators sufficient to assist in conducting subordinate unit inspections and assistance visits.
  • Knowledge of the organizational readiness reporting process.
  • Knowledge of administrative regulations sufficient to assist with organizational mail, file systems, and publications. Ability to use automated or manual systems in the preparation of reports and correspondence required by the organization.

Education

OR Must have 1 full years of graduate education to substitute education for specialized experience.
